Subject History
Lois is the oldest of General Sam Lane and Ella Lane’s two daughters. The General raised both Lois and her sister, Lucy, strictly, including extensive combat training. Like most army kids, Lois and her family moved around a lot. When she was fifteen and residing near Metropolis, she approached Perry White about a job at the Daily Planet. He turned her down and Lois decided to impress him by getting a scoop on Lex Luthor himself. She managed to sneak in and grab some info, but was caught by Luthor. Still, this impressed Perry enough to give her the job.
Lois is quick to become one of the Daily Planet’s best reporters, even winning a Pulitzer Prize. Her biggest story yet came after, though: the arrival of Superman. Lois broke the story, giving him the name the world would know him by: Superman. Not long after that, she met her new coworker, Clark Kent.
While Lois had suspicions, she didn’t realize Clark was Superman. The two became friends and began dating. Clark eventually proposed and Lois accepted. Shortly after that, Clark revealed himself as Superman to her. Lois accepted this, though she was irked by the advantage this gave him in writing stories about himself. She even challenged him to a contest: see who could get the first scoop on a story, no powers allowed.
It all went wrong, however, when Doomsday showed up. Superman fought the monster and eventually defeated it, but at a great price, dying in Lois’s arms. Heartbroken, Lois still wrote the story of Superman’s death and continued to keep the secret of Clark’s dual identity. When four new supermen showed up—or superboy in one’s case—Lois interviewed them all, but remained doubtful over any being the true, original Superman. Lois was finally reunited with the real Clark when he returned from the dead.
She began and investigation into Lexcorp for insurance fraud, which eventually led to her discovering that Lex Luthor II was really the original Lex in a clone body. Despite efforts from Lex to discredit her and even kill her, Lois got her proof. Joker later poisoned Lois in an attempt to be murdered by Superman. The plan failed, but with Superman’s duties constantly getting in the way of their relationship Lois broke off their engagement. Wanting a story to take her mind off her relationship troubles, Lois began investigating the current CEO of Lexcorp, Contessa Erica Alexandra Del Portenza. She discovered that Lex and Contessa were working together and planning to marry. Jimmy, however, broke the story for another paper before she could. The stress of recent happenings catching up with her, Lois decided to take on a job as a foreign correspondent, leaving Metropolis and Clark.
Lois did, eventually, return to Metropolis and Clark. The two were wed—Clark notably being powerless at the time. During their honeymoon, Clark was kidnapped. Lois, however, was able to rescue him singlehandedly. Clark later regained his powers and things seemed to return to their version of normal.
That was when Lex Luthor bought the Daily Planet, firing everyone except for Lois, Clark, Jimmy, and a couple others. The job became meaningless and Lois found no enjoyment in it. Around the same time, she also found out her sister was pregnant.
Clark then began to act strange, devoting all of his time to being Superman and giving up Clark Kent altogether when he moved to the Fortress of Solitude. Lois didn’t go with him and failed like everyone else in her attempt to reason with him. Superman, becoming more and more obsessed with keeping the world safe, created an army of Super-Robots. Lois wrote a disapproving story, denouncing Superman’s actions. Taking matters into her own hands, Lois was able to sneak into the Fortress of Solitude. She confronted Clark and, when the two kissed, he was broken out of his trance, having been manipulated by Dominus the entire time. They manage to win the day, but Superman’s reputation is in shambles.
Lex then inexplicably sold back the Daily Planet for just one dollar. No one knew the reason, except for Lois: she had made a deal with Lex. She had agreed to bury one story of his choosing, no matter what it was, on the condition that he sell back the Daily Planet. Lois kept this a secret from everyone, including Clark. Lex offered to drop the deal after Lois’s rescue of baby Lena Luthor, but Lois refused, not liking the insinuation that she only saved the child to get in good with Lex.
After some odd behavior on Lois’s end—culminating in her attacking Clark—it was revealed that Parasite had replaced Lois after Brainiac’s attack on the city, having touched her and found out the truth. Parasite died before being able to reveal Lois’s location, having contracted whatever illness Clark was suffering from at the time. Superman, gravely ill, found Lois with the help of Batman. Clark collapses, though, and was rushed to STAR Labs for treatment. While Clark was being treated, Deathstroke showed up, having been hired to kill La Encantadora—the one who had been hired to poison Clark in the first place. During the fight, he stabbed Lois in the chest. Thanks to Supergirl and La Encantadora, though, Lois was saved and she helped give Clark the will to recover.
Lois was less than happy when Lex Luthor was elected President of the United States, even less so when he named her father Secretary of Defense, causing further tension between father and daughter. Soon after, the world was invaded by an alien army led by Darkseid. As battles erupted around the world, Lois went to the White House. The White House was attacked, though, and with Clark unable to hear Lois’s calls for help, her father died in the battle. Despite having not having the best relationship with her father, Lois was devasted by his death. Lois afterwards decided to take time off and travel the world with her mother—who later witnessed Lois kissing Superman and thought Lois was having an affair.
Lois returned to Metropolis, admitting to Clark that a part of her blamed him for her father’s death, but that didn’t change the fact that she loved and needed him. Lois then began investigating President Luthor, believing he had known about the attack beforehand. Lex brought their previous deal into effect, demanding that Lois bury that story. Lois, instead, confessed everything to Clark. Clark then published the story and was subsequently fired due to his lack of proof, but Perry really just had him going undercover to investigate Lex further.
Clark and Lois later adopt a son, a Kryptonian boy they name Chris Kent. It turned out Chris was the son of General Zod. Chris ended up sacrificing himself, however, to seal a rift in the Phantom Zone.
Lois was caught in an explosion at the Daily Planet, severely injuring her, with only Clark’s heat vision keeping her alive. A Monitor stopped time around Lois so that Clark could help save the multiverse. When he returned, he brought with him a drop of The Bleed, which restored Lois to full health.
Lois was later accused of treason due to an expose she’d written. When she was taken into custody, it was revealed her father was still alive. He threatened to make her disappear if the story runs, saying that while he loved her, the planet would always come before his family. Lois returned to the Daily Planet and explained it all to Perry. Perry said he wouldn’t run the story, but says the story must still get out. Lois pretended to quit the Daily Planet.
Lois found out her father and his forces were responsible for the destruction of New Krypton and was then kidnapped by her sister Lucy and taken to their father’s secret base. Lois argued with her father and Supergirl eventually showed up, threatening to kill Sam. Lois insisted that he be judged for his crimes, but instead he took out a gun and shot himself. Lois later wrote an article detailing her father’s war crimes. She visited Lucy in prison, stating that she will miss her sister, not her father.
Lois and Superman then investigate a factory in Des Moines, where the workers were dumping waste into the river. The hitch being that if the factory was shut down, many people would lose their jobs. Lois wanted to publish the article, but Superman forced her not to. Betrayed, Lois returned to Metropolis and didn’t speak with Clark for a while. Lois was then kidnapped by Lisa Jennings, who was hell bent on destroying Superman’s life. Clark rescued her and apologized for Des Moines. Lois stated that she wrote the article anyway, because she was a reporter before she was his wife. Superman kissed her and they returned home.
Subject Interview
Tap, tap, tap, her fingers moved leisurely across the keyboard. Her police scanner gave a low hum, occasionally spurting out words about a robbery or domestic disturbance. It was joined by the whistle of a janitor across the room. Otherwise, it was a fairly quiet night. She glanced at the muted television in the corner of the room, seeing that her husband was still busy helping with that earthquake in Thailand. It would probably be another hour or two before he was done. She turned her attention back to the document she was typing and promptly grimaced at the amount of red, squiggly lines that were underlining her words. And she thought she had that one word right, too…
She was promptly jolted as the sound of her desk phone ringing pierced the silence. She glanced at the clock in the bottom corner of her computer screen, wondering who would be calling her at this time of night.
Still, she picked it up and put it to her ear. “Lane.”
“Uh, hey, Lois…”
She chewed on the tip of her pen as she tried to place the voice. “Benny?”
“Yeah, uh, can you meet me…?”
A source wanting to meet? Personal experience told her this could go one of two ways. “Sure, where?”
Benny prattled off an address which she knew as an old liquor store. She frowned when he specified the alley behind the old liquor store. Typical. It wasn’t surprising, though; the guy was tattling some pretty sensitive material regarding some recent happenings in the local drug trade: drugs getting ripped off from their manufacturers and then sold at a cheaper price.
She saved what she had of her story so far, shut down her computer, and grabbed her purse. On her way to the elevator she called a goodnight to the janitor and received well-wishes in return. It didn’t take her long to drive to the location, the traffic in the city dying down as the hour became later.
After arriving, she stepped out of the car, hand clutching the strap of her purse as it hung from her shoulder. The only sounds were that of the occasional car and the click of her heels as she walked around the liquor store and into the alley. She raised an eyebrow slightly as she caught sight of Benny, wearing a hoodie and just out of range of the streetlight. "Alright, Benny, what have you got?”
He fidgeted. “Uh, look, Lois, I think I have to back out…”
“What?” she demanded, walking up to him. He backed up a few steps, intimidated. The hand not holding her purse strap went to her hip and she narrowed her eyes. “Have they threatened you?”
He fidgeted again, shoving his hands into the pockets of his hoodie. “Uh…”
She let out a sigh, eyeing him. Really, she was less irritated at him and more so at them. “If they’re threatening you, I have connections. You can be protected.”
But then something behind her was catching Benny’s eyes and something hard was hitting the back of her head and everything was going black and wow she’ll never live this down.

When she finally woke up, she couldn’t keep the grimace off her face. For one, her head hurt. Secondly, this place smelled. Honestly, the smell was probably worse than the headache—she’d had hangovers worse than this, if she was being honest. She cracked her eyes open, eyeing the moldy walls of the apartment she was in. Well, that explains the smell. She was surprised, as she shifted slightly, that she wasn’t tied up. They’d probably been banking on her being out for longer. If so, they’d severely underestimated the amount of times she’d been hit over the head. She glanced at an old clock on the wall, seeing that she’d only been out for a couple hours. She caught the sound of voices and focused on making out their words.
“-asking too many questions. We didn’t have a choice.”
“We need to move. Like, right now.”
“And where do you suggest, dips**t?”
“I don’t know! Maybe Canada. Do they have heroes in Canada? I heard they have free healthcare, though, which would be pretty cool.”
“God, shut the hell up, man.”
Ok, then.
Alright, Lane, you’ve been in stickier situations than this. Literally. She briefly remembered a time she’d been working on an expose that focused on a candy company’s connection to the drug trade. In retaliation, they had tried to make Lois flavored candy just in time for Valentine’s Day. She’d been washing caramel out of her hair for weeks.
She sat up, cautiously watching the door that led to the room where the men’s voices were coming from. Her eyes then landed on her purse, sitting on a decrepit table, and she couldn’t help but smirk slightly, knowing her trusty ol’ can of mace was in there.
She stood up, but that was when the door opened and the two men stilled at the sight of a clearly conscious Lois Lane. The man who she assumed was in charge narrowed his eyes and walked up to her. “Look, Lane, we don’t want to mess with you too much, but-”
She didn’t let him finish, her knee connecting with his groin a moment before she flew her fist straight into his face. The man stumbled backwards, tripping on a chair and falling to the ground. She made eye contact with the wide eyes of the other man, before dashing across the room toward her purse. The other man seemed to finally collect him, going to intercept her. He wrapped his arms around her from behind. She let out a grunt as she was brought to a halt, but didn’t hesitate in stomping down on his foot with her heel before jabbing his gut sharply with her elbow. With a pained gasp, he released her and she reached her purse. Her hand scrambled through her purse, before clutching onto her mace. She turned around just in time to spray it straight into the face of the other man. The first man was there quickly as well, but earned nothing but his own face full of pepper spray. Both men let out yowls and clutched their faces.
She then went to dig her phone out of her purse to call 911, but was distracted by movement outside the window. A familiar man in red and blue lowered himself to look at her through the window. He had his arms crossed, an eyebrow cocked, and the faintest of grins tugging at his lips.
Ignoring the yowling men behind her, she grinned casually. “So, how’s Thailand?”
