Subject History
When Batman first found him, Jason was a street-kid stealing the tires from the batmobile. His mother had died of an overdose and his father, who worked for Two-Face, had mysteriously disappeared. Batman eventually took him in and appointed him as the second Robin. Jason was a rebellious Robin, not known for having the best of attitudes, but Jason was always loyal and passionate to the cause. The morals that the rest of Batman’s family had accepted, did not come so easily to Jason.
Jason was sold out to the Joker by his biological mother. Joker savagely beat Jason with a crowbar to an inch of his life. The Joker left, planting a bomb to finish off the young hero and his mother, who had also been captured. Jason attempted to rescue his mother and himself, but the bomb went off with them both inside; making Batman too late to save Jason by mere seconds. Jason Todd had died.
It is speculated that Jason’s return to life was caused by the reality altering events spurred on by Superboy-Prime. After digging himself out of his own grave, Jason’s mind wasn’t quite the same. All that was left was basically instincts. He spent a year as a comatose patient, and subsequently another year as an amnesiac. He was soon taken in by Talia Al Ghul, who, against her father’s wishes, threw Jason into the Lazarus Pit in order to restore his health and memories. Talia then funded for Jason to be trained by the best around the world, much in the same way Bruce had been. Once his training was complete, he returned to Gotham and has had an antagonistic relationship with the “family” ever since, due to the fact that he prefers to kill the villains, rather than just hand them over to the cops.
This antagonistic relationship has led to several conflicts over time. He had a brief stint impersonating Nightwing, much to the displeasure of Dick. The two did cooperate briefly, though, when they had a shared enemy in the Pierce Brothers.
There was a brief reprieve from the familial conflict while Jason traveled the multiverse with Donna Troy and Kyle Rayner. Jason briefly took on the title of Red Robin after being granted it by the Batman of another earth. The title was ditched, though, upon return to his regular earth.
Another battle arised shortly after the death of Bruce. Jason believed himself the best candidate for title of Batman, going to violent means to prove as much. He shot Damian, stabbed Tim, and kicked Catwoman off an overpass. He was eventually defeated by Dick, though, and gave up the crusade with a promise to return.
And return he did, adding more showmanship to his Red Hood persona, taking on a sidekick--teenage girl, Scarlet--and using the internet and media to his advantage. He took on Dick, current holder of the Batman mantle, and the newest Robin, Damian. He and his sidekick were eventually defeated by the Dynamic Duo, though, and Jason was carted off to Arkham. After passing all psychological tests, he was able to convince a newly returned Bruce to transfer him out of Arkham. There, several inmates died as both a direct and suspected result of Jason. He was returned to Arkham, but was broken out by a group of mercenaries shortly after. Jason fought them, despite their claims that they were hired to bring him to meet a man was he was in no danger. They then revealed that their employer had Scarlet captive. With the help of Dick and Damian, he managed to rescue her, the two escaping toward an unknown destination.
Subject Interview
He never knew why he always seemed to come back to this place. There was nothing special about it. It was nothing but a bunch of smog and dark buildings. He felt no attraction to it. If anything, he was disgusted by the place and how the ignorant and pompous people continue to act as if nothing was wrong. But here, everything was wrong.
Maybe that was the thing about Gotham. Everything was just so wrong, that he couldn’t subconsciously believe it. He had to come, to prove it to himself, to remind himself that it was real; that the horrible deeds that lurk in the shadows every day and night actually do happen. Or perhaps it was just to punish himself. He was insane. At least, that’s what the look in everyone’s eyes keeps telling him.
He remembered standing on top of Wayne Tower, wearing a brightly colored costume that was highly contradictory to the costume the man beside him wore. He remembered looking down on Gotham, watching the people walk around like ants on a playground. This was his playground. His kingdom. And he had to protect it. He had to protect it from every lowlife scum out there, ‘cause, obviously, the people couldn’t protect themselves. They were too oblivious to the evils of life.
He had never been oblivious, just nearsighted. Now his vision was twenty-twenty.
Red Hood’s eyes narrowed as he refocused, remembering the reason he told himself he was here. His eyes remained locked on the man at the head of the table, the one who was negotiating the illegal arms deal. He was negotiating for enough arms to supply a small army. So, naturally, Red Hood was going to make an entrance, via this dude. Because he was badass, and he wanted people to know it. Kneeling on the roof of a building directly next to the warehouse where the deal was going down, he aimed his gun at the window, making sure the bullet would penetrate right in the middle of the man’s forehead. If you were going to make an impact, you had to have style.
He smirked beneath his helmet. “Pow.”
He pulled the trigger.
