Events + missions Guide
ARFD's aim is to supply the membership with a steady flow of interesting activities to throw their characters into outside of the personal roleplaying experience. Scenarios or rambling plots that they can participate in without having to work out all of the details themselves, as they do in solitary posting. Opportunities to roll with punches, explore a narrative unfolding and have fun! There are two primary designations for these on the board: Events and Missions.
Events:
These are larger, more expansive stories that occur on the forum. They normally have more threads that are part of them, have a longer build-up, a grander climax and for the most part do not modify the regular restrictions on the forum (unless otherwise stated). These can either be staff-driven or, if a member submits an idea that the administration feel would work with the vision for the forum, member-driven with staff supervision. Events will operate in their own, clearly marked board(s), which will exist through the duration of the Event.
Missions:
Unlike Events, Missions are more self-contained. They're about instant gratification. Staff-driven Missions will be posted, sometimes using NPC's to necessitate them, other times focusing on a guest, member-written character and fashioning the Mission around them.
Both:
In both Events and Missions, objectives will be plainly stated in the threads, and mod posts can help the narrative along, offer clues, puzzles, enemies or other tasks.
Participant Rules
Participating in an Event or Mission, you are agreeing to abide by the slightly altered set of rules found below:
Posts are supposed to come quick, so we can swiftly progress the story and keep creative juices flowing. To make things conducive to that, along with the posting deadline, we encourage members to write no more than three paragraphs and no less than two. If you go over, but still post soundly within your deadline, that's all right, but three paragraphs should be your goal. If you keep things consistently longer, people will subconsciously work to match your length and the whole nature of the Event or Mission crumbles, so posts more than the maximum should not be an average.
Lastly, when you make a reply to a mission or event thread please tag the account of the player who is up next at the end of your post. This is a simple courtesy to help the character who's up next in the rotation knows that it's their turn to post. This can be done simply by including the @ symbol, followed by the appropriate account's username ("@username").

It could very well be that the question you have in mind ought to be explained in this thread, in which case your inquisitiveness will help others. Meanwhile, if you have a suggestion for an Event or Mission, or would like to specifically offer one, or several of your characters to be the template used for one or the other, PM the main admin account!
