Full Name: Alexander Joseph Luthor
Codename: None needed
Aliases: Lex Luthor
Marital Status: Divorced
Meta-Human Abilities: N/A
Genius Level Intellect - Luthor is considered one of the smartest men in the world whose intellect is nearly unrivaled. Luthor holds Masters and Doctorates in multiple fields of study including chemistry, robotics, mathematics, biology, statistics, philosophy, political science, and business. Luthor solves complex mathematical equations to pass the time and is rumored to have developed cures for multiple life-threatening illnesses that he chooses not to make public for monetary reasons. As an inventor he has created machines that have done everything from control the weather, boost your cellphone reception, and withstand continued combat with Kryptonians and other Metahumans.
Business Acumen - As previously suggested, Luthor has converted his intellect into a profitable corporation and has acquired a massive fortune that is second only to Bruce Wayne (a fact that bothers him). LexCorp is a multimedia corporation who deal in military grade weapon contracts, pharmaceuticals, robotics, gaming, communications, news media, and a multitude of other lines of business. Luthor presents himself as a giving philanthropist and most of the buildings and organizations in Metropolis bear his name and logo. Luthor has a knack for finding the most well-equipped people and grooming them into the role that he needs filled. Unlike Wayne, though, Luthor is a shrewd businessman who isn't above cut-throat tactics, unethical practices and operations, extortion, and intimidation.
Political Science - Part of being a good businessman is knowing how to navigate shark-infested waters and what is more vicious than American politics? Lex's business acumen and his willingness to sink to lower depths than his competitors led to him becoming the President of the United States for a period of time. Luthor knew what palms need greased, who could be intimidated, who could be negotiated with, and who, frankly, needed to be removed from the picture entirely. His talent for handpicking and grooming his employees also helped him build an experience and talented cabinet to work with as well.
Leadership - Whether it is a boardroom in LexCorp, the Oval Office, or sitting at the head of a table of metahumans, mercenaries, lunatics, aliens, and run of the mill thugs... when Lex talks people listen. Call it a charm if you will, but Lex is a natural leader among men mainly because he believes he is the only candidate qualified to do so.
Hand to Hand Combat - Lex Luthor hired the most skilled combat art specialists that money could be to train him to be proficient in martial arts. However, money can't buy everything, so Luthor is only an "okay" martial artists. As such, Lex will fail if things come to blows with most costumed heroes... unless he's armed with tech and his Warsuit.
Firearms - Due to the aforementioned basic combat skills, Lex has trained himself to be a proficient shooter in all manner of handguns. While nowhere near on the level of a mercenary like Deadshot or Deathstroke, Luthor is capable of defending himself or striking down a target.
Warsuit: Lex's Warsuit is an ever-evolving set of armor that he has been modifying and tinkering with ever since its inception. The most frequent modifications revolve around Kryptonite powered force fields or weaponry. While some parts of it may be added or removed depending on what he is expecting to encounter, there are certain features that remain consistent with its design.
Superhuman Strength - The Warsuit increases Lex's strength to superhuman and can easily best non-powered and most metahuman heroes. While the strength component can vary depending on what the suit has been modified for, Luthor is capable of lifting motor vehicles and other several ton weighted objects. Though not on the same level of a Kryptonian like Superman or Supergirl, the enhanced strength in Lex's suit can overpower a Kryptonian is used in conjunction with a Kryptonite weapon or force field.
Superhuman Durability - Luthor is able to withstand heavy damage that could break a man's bones or cripple him for life. Due to it being designed specifically to do combat with Superman, Luthor can exchange blows with the Man of Steel while in the suit though the Warsuit will eventually fail if he pushes it too far.
Flight - The Warsuit is jet-propelled allowing Lex to fly at speeds of Mach 2. As such it is also insulated to protect Lex from higher elevations and wind resistance at those speeds.
Force Field - Used in conjunction with his Warsuit's durability, the Force Field component protects Luthor from nearly all physical assault. The Force Field is strong enough to shield Lex from artillery, bladed weapons, explosions, and the super strength of Superman. The Force Field does have its limitations, however, and will eventually burn itself out if pushed too hard for too long.
Projectiles - While Lex may freshen things up with a Kryptonite imbued battleaxe or spear, what Warsuit would be complete without artillery? Depending on what Lex is anticipating, the Warsuit may be outfitted with heavy artillery Gatling guns, short-ranged homing missles, plasma rays, flamethrowers, freezeguns, or whatever other nasty things he has cooked up.
Only Human - Despite his resentment towards this, Lex Luthor is a mortal man. As such, he can be killed by any number of ways (shot, stabbed, disease, fall, old age, etc.)
Arrogance - For all of his intellgence, the biggest weakness Lex has is knowing that he is one of the most intelligent people on the planet. Not only does it give him a superiority complex, it gives him a messiah complex. In Lex's mind, he is the only person on the planet who is capable of saving humanity and, due to Superman's alien gifts, he resents metahumans who are gifted with their extraordinary abilities. Lex is prone to making glaring mistakes or getting too caught up in the moment of victory. Additionally, he is also a spiteful person who will sometimes refuse to do the right thing just to piss off whoever is asking him to.
Misogyny - Lex doesn't have a high opinion of women, partially to what her preceived as his mother's weakness to stop his father from abusing him. In Lex's mind, the majority of women are weak-willed and are merely pieces to move on the chessboard to get what he wants. Only a few women have proven their worth to him namely Mercy Graves. Divorced around 7 times, Lex's attraction to Lois Lane is due to her fearlessness in calling him out to his face. As such, Lex sees the woman as a challenge to be conquered.
Building an Empire
It is remarkable what a difference a few decisions make when it comes to defining a man's story. In a lot of ways, the story of Lex Luthor is about overcoming adversity using any means possible. In fact, you could claim that Lex Luthor is a hero in his own right.
Born and raised in the slums of Metropolis, Lex Luthor's father was a drunken abuser who beat and tormented his son and daughter regularly while their mother sat by and watched. Despite the regular physical and emotional abuse, Lex displayed early signs that he was extraordinarily gifted. Soon he was not only the top of his class in school, but being placed on accelerated learning plans to keep up with his intelligence. Tired of the neglect they encountered, Lex joined very early on in life that power was the most important thing in the world and that it must be acquired no matter what it took. So, a young Lex began to bully, torment, and harass others in order to gain a reputation as someone that should not be messed with. Realizing that he would never ascend past his certain level due to his family's social status, Lex took out a life insurance claim on his family and then paid off a pair of low lives to sabotage their vehicle so that they could die in a car accident. Lex went on to use the fortune to begin building his empire.
Whilst working towards his advanced degrees, Lex was transferring his gifts into the creation of LexCorp. At first the organization started small with working towards advancements in medicines before growing to become a top name in multiple other industries all the while Lex used the same bullying and intimidation tactics to push the company forward behind the scenes. He took money from the city to better arm the police force against the city's gangs and then he'd take money from the gangs to build even better weapons for them. If a company did not agree to play ball with LexCorp, Lex would use his female associates to find blackmail material on the heads of the organizations to get his way. By the time Lex Luthor was in his mid-twenties, there wasn't a building in Metropolis that didn't have a LexCorp presence or influence inside of it... aside from one - the Daily Planet. Lex Luthor learned early on that perception is everything. So, he began to carefully craft an image of himself "Metropolis' Favorite Son" and sold his story as a feel-good editorial about how a man can climb the ranks and move from the slums to the head of his own organization. It was very inspirational he thought... but Perry White, the head of the Daily Planet, knew he was full of it. Even if he owned the other news outlets in Metropolis, the Planet's readers still believed White's opinion of him. So, Luthor made his first professional enemy that day.
Still, aside from that one piece of unpleasantness, Luthor was still the top name and most beloved figure of Metropolis... until Superman arrived.
A Mortal Enemy
Luthor was amused by the arrival of Superman at first and was determined to form a partnership with the man the same as he had any other potential competitor who had arrived in Metropolis. However, after orchestrating an attack on a charity function he was a part of, Luthor's offer to hire Superman as a bodyguard was declined and his plan had been revealed. For the first time in a LONG time, their first encounter left Luthor humiliated in front of the city when he was led away from the event in handcuffs. Though he was able to get out of prison on a legal technicality, Superman had exposed the first dent in the armor of Luthor's well-crafted persona. On top of that, Superman was everything Luthor resented in others. While he had to work his way up from nothing, Superman received all of his powers by birth alone. For that, he would not rest until Superman was destroyed.
Over the years that followed, Luthor would personally get involved with and bankroll multiple attempts to expose and destroy the Man of Steel. Each time Luthor came close to defeating Superman, Luthor would fail and be overpowered. Due to his connections and wealth, as well as Superman's inability to be a witness, Luthor was able to walk away scot free. Ever the inquisitive mind, Luthor started to make many important discoveries about Superman's origins, his relationships, and, most importantly, his weakness to the mineral Kryptonite. Luthor experiment and discovered many different types of Kryptonite and many different ways to use it, even going so far as to craft a ring to wear at all times to keep Superman away from him. This decision would prove to be costly, however, as Luthor developed cancer from prolonged exposure to the radiation emitted from Kryptonite and, despite treatments and amputation the infected hand, the disease was diagnosed as terminal.
Lex would not pass away from the disease, however. In a strange turn of fate, Lex Luthor perished when his private jet crashed into the Andes Mountains on his way to a business trip.
Death and Rebirth
You can never keep a good man down.
Ever the prepper, Luthor had already lined up a cloned version of his body and the plane crash was an excuse to cover up him having his brain transplanted into the younger and healthier body. Shortly after, Lex Luthor II was introduced to the world as the unknown son that was raised by foster parents in Australia. With a new lease on life, Luthor decided to take advantage of the situation by seducing Supergirl. This clone body was not meant to be as it began to deteriorate and age rapidly. It also didn't help matters when Lois Lane had uncovered a scoop leading to the reveal that not only had Lex faked his own death to pose as his son but also expose every crooked dealing, every shady business deal, and every crime the man had ever pulled. In retaliation, Luthor unleashed a doomsday plan on Metropolis that burned the city to the ground while his healthy mind was trapped in a decaying body.
What was that about never keeping a good man down?
On his deathbed, Lex Luthor was given the deal of a lifetime by a demon named Neron who gave Lex a young, healthy body again in exchange for his soul. Big deal. He wasn't using it anyway. In his fit and trim body, Luthor returned to a rebuilt Metropolis and turned himself over to the police in order to "answer for his crimes." In reality, Luthor had managed to craft a story about how he had been kidnapped by renegade scientists and replaced by a clone over the past few years.
With a fit body and a clean record, Lex Luthor walked back into his city with his head held high.
Lex the Philanthropist and President Luthor
With a renewed sense of life, Lex returned to rebuilding his image as Metropolis' greatest benefactor and hero. Whilst LexCorp continued with their shady dealings, Lex began to donate time and money to multiple charities to repair his reputation after the expose Lois Lane had written about him prior. When a massive earthquake essentially stranded Gotham City from the rest of the world, Luthor and LexCorp were one of the major names that came to the city's aid and assisted with the rebuild when the American government abandoned it. Lex Luthor also was instrumental in assisting the Justice League in repowering the sun when it appeared to be going out.
It was these acts of philanthropy that played a big part in Lex Luthor's presidential bid and nomination to assume the role of the leader of the free world. Luthor was considered a popular candidate with his platform on technological advancement that everyone could afford. However old habits die hard and the truth behind No Man's Land was that Luthor had been involved in it from the start for his own gain. Wayne Enterprises reacted by ending their military contracts with the government and Luthor reacted by having Wayne's lover murdered and framing the Billionaire Playboy for the crime. Luthor was also instrumental in leading the Earth's army and several alien armies into victory against a threat called Imperiex... though it was discovered that he knew the threat was coming and chose not to alert earth's heroes. Old habits, right?
Impeachment and Decline
Another huge victory for Luthor was the discovery, thanks to evidence from the CIA, that Clark Kent is really Superman due to an unknown meteor crash in Smallville several decades before. Luthor decided to sit on this knowledge partially because he refused to believe that someone as powerful as Superman would CHOOSE to be Clark Kent. However, when push came to shove, Luthor assisted Superman in dispatching the telepathic Manchester Black from killing Lois. During the event, Luthor acknowledged that he knew the truth and that he chose to get involved to protect Lois. Before taking his own life, however, Manchester Black used his abilities to make Lex forget what he learned about Clark.
In his arrogance of successfully framing Bruce Wayne for murder, Lex Luthor overplayed his hand when he attempted to blame Superman for a meteor coming to earth. What followed was a chaotic encounter with Batman and the Man of Steel that saw Luthor combine his Warsuit with Bane's venom toxin to disastrous results. Once again, Lex Luthor had exposed all of his dirty laundry and went into hiding after the world discovered the truth once more.
In the events of Infinite Crisis, Luthor was instrumental along with his parallel version of himself Alexander Luthor in becoming involved with Superboy Prime's attempt to reset reality. After his parallel version died at the hands of the Joker, Luthor used his body as proof that he was once again replaced by an impostor who really did all of the terrible crimes he had been accused of.
Once more, Lex Luthor had a clean slate.
Everyman and Salvation Run
This clean slate did not last long, though, as the Everyman Project, an attempt for Luthor to give the common man super powers... failed dramatically with people literally falling out of the sky to their deaths. For his part in it, Luthor was arrested and charged with murder. Though he was acquitted of those crimes, Lex's reputation was ruined once more and, even worse, he lost control of LexCorp. In a fit of revenge, Luthor commandeered a long lost Kryptonian battleship and attacked Metropolis for once more turning it's back on him in favor of Superman. When Superman confronted him, Lex turned the entire ship into Kryptonite and the two fought it out until they both plummeted to the ground. As they did, Luthor lashed out at Superman telling him that if he hadn't come around Luthor would have saved the world through scientific advancements. Superman replied that while he was gone for a year Lex had only made another super weapon. The fight ended and Lex was incarcerated once more.
After a brief time working for the American government in secret, Lex and many of the Earth's other villains, were sentenced to the prison planet Salvation. Once there, Lex quickly made himself a figurehead amongst the incarcerated. When the planet was attacked by Parademons, Luthor concocted a plan to create a teleporter using some of the villains as batteries. However, he did neglect to tell the villains that they would be forced to stay behind and die. Whoops.
Once reimprisoned, Lex begins working for the Government once again as they studied Brainiac's memory banks. Unsurprisingly, the two hit it off and made their escape after choreographing a distraction with the New Krypton planet.
Black and Orange
The problem with having as many villains as Lex Luthor is that, at some point, your checks will have to be cashed. That's what happened with Luthor when a horde of Black Lanterns assaulted one of his safehouses in an attempt to extract their revenge. When the call was put out for other lanterns to be recruited to the multiple Corps, Luthor was saved at the last minute when an Orange Lantern ring finds him and deputizes him into the Orange Lantern Corps. Powered by greed, Lex proves to be a valued piece of the Lantern Corps showdown with Neron (who no doubt remembered Lex's dept to him).
Larfleeze, the head and only member of the Orange Lantern Corps, could not stand sharing power with Lex and stripped him of his ring as soon as possible. This only made Lex's lust for power even stronger as he turned his attention to the stars. While experimenting with black spheres of residual Black Lantern power, Lex becomes infused with cosmic energy who wants revenge from the Phantom Zone. Using his powers to draw Superman out, Luthor does battle with his enemy one more time when he learns the truth about Clark Kent once more. Enraged with this fact, Luthor loses control of the entity and falls into the Phantom Zone.
"Now tell me one more time, Mr. Luthor... where the hell have you been?"
Lex Luthor leaned back in the hard metal chair. The white interrogation room was stifling and used to give the interogatee that they had nowhere to hide. It was childish really. Mental games like this were boring. Lex smiled as he straightened the lapels of his custom $10k suit (of all the things he missed on earth chief among them were fine tailored suits).
"Like I said, officer, an attempt on my life was made and, under the guise of my associate Mercy Graves, I have been in hiding in Monaco for the past few years."
The cop looked at him sternly, no doubt letting the one or two brain cells that hadn't been rotted away by bad coffee and sugary donuts fire off against one another in an attempt at rational thought. Had he played the "evil clone/long lost son" story before? Sure, but everyone loves the classics. Besides, there had to be some excuse for why he hadn't been on Earth lately. Luthor leaned forwarded and cupped his hands together.
"I dunno, Mr. Luthor. Seems awful convenient that the CEO of LexCorp goes missing right around time the original CEO and founder turn up out of the blue."
Luthor smirked. He recognized the tone of voice the officer was using. It was the tone that he wasn't buying it but he also didn't care enough to push the issue. It was the tone of voice that said "slip me a little something and I'll forget this ever happened." People were predictable. Give them a little money or even just the illusion of power and they turn into easily mold-able putty.
"That's an excellent observation, officer. It sounds like there is a promotion down the line for you, yes? I'll be sure to let your commanding officer know about your excellent detective skills."
He took a moment to take a sip from the cold, burnt coffee from the precint's coffee machine and grimaced at the taste. The first thing he would do when he got back to his penthouse was brew something nice and smooth... maybe a light roast.
"Though, of course, that is all just a coincidence. I don't know who that person is. For the last few years I have had little to no contact with Lexcorp out of fear for my life. Really, officer, I am just a man returning from a long trip and ready to get back to work."
The officer motioned as if he was going to say something and paused as his phone made a cash register sound. Slowly, he looked down at the mobile device and stared at the notification that Lex already knew he had received. He had instructed Ms. Graves that if he were in this police station past a certain period of time to get in touch with the accounts. Simultaneously, all throughout the building, cash register sounds were going off as large cash deposits were being made into every officer's bank accounts. It was pricey but it was worth it to just be done with the whole unpleasantness.
Lex smiled as he stood up from the uncomfortable chair and straightened his suit jacket. The officer stared at his phone, wide-eyed and speechless as he no doubt was still digesting the considerable bonus he had just received for all of his hard work.
"Now, if you will excuse me, officer. I believe I have a company to run."
