Participants: Harvey McPhearson and Axel Walker Open/Closed: Closed Location(s): Keystone City Time of Day: 1:30 AM Weather: Drizzling Summary: Could it be? The most compressed enemies-turned-lovers trope in fictional history? More likely than you'd think.
Harvey hadn't had a single "normal" day since answering the audition to be Harley Quinn's sidekick. That was kind of the point, and one of the things that he loved most about working for that woman. That night, though? Hands down the ****ing craziest yet. He'd started it doing a job in Keystone for Harls, which blew up in his face (literally), and then the little blonde a**hole who ruined things ended up helping Harvey fight an entirely different a**hole. He'd even dressed Trickster's stab wound - a wound Harvey had made - on a rooftop like some twisted romantic YA novel.
And it kept going, if you can imagine. One call to Harley, explaining everything that had happened, and Harvey had been let loose to do "whatever the hell his little heart desired," so long as he used Harley's resources to get back to Gotham within seventy-two hours. But... Now he was here... Sitting at a table for two in a greasy little burger joint that, for some reason, was open at one AM in the morning, waiting for the guy he'd stabbed a little while ago to make good with his promises.
Harvey wasn't glaringly Quinn's sidekick anymore, thanks to a little bit of elbow grease. His hair was an artfully disheveled mess, rather than slicked back; his makeup had been wiped clean; and he had a crop-top sweatshirt on as a top (pointedly displaying the six pack he worked so hard for), combined with his in-costume booty shorts and tennis shoes. Harvey was repeatedly prodding an index finger to the tabletop, pursing his lips sourly at how sticky it was - stak, stak, stak - when Trickster returned.
"These better be as good as you said," he remarked dryly, looking at the heaping boat of cheese-swamped fries slapped between them. "I could be sleeping right now."

The events of recent had gone far better than they could've, Axel had decided, and thus it had given him a reason to grin. Neither of them were in jail so that meant the day - He checked the clock this place had on its wall - yes the day hadn't gone too bad so far. He especially wasn't in jail so he counted it as a win. It was always best to try to see the bright side of things - at least when he was in a good mood - he thought. No, he hadn't gotten all those weapons. But it was okay! Technically he'd never even been asked to get them. Thus no one needed to know he'd failed! And yes, he'd been stabbed and hurt but he wasn't dead! And he'd even made a new friend - oddly enough in the form of the guy that had stabbed him.
They were friends now... Right?
Axel had gotten changed a bit more than his counterpart. He wore faded blue jeans with tears on each knee. His sneakers were a bright yellow and tied not quite right, the laces flopping about as he walked. He wore a grey t-shirt with the picture of a spray bottle, a succulent, and the words Water Me Daddy framing the images. His sweatshirt was a yellow and blue checkered pattern and unzipped to display the shirt he thought was absolutely hilarious, especially when one considered how he didn't own any plants.
He came skipping back with the cheese soaked fries, placing them on the table then making jazz hands and saying, "Ta-duh!!" He slipped into a spot across from Harvey, having introduced himself and his name - He had a criminal record and thus his identity wasn't exactly secret so he hadn't seen the harm in telling the other man he could call him Axel.
He pouted at Harvey's dry tone, grabbing a cheesy fry and wagging it at him, the cheese splattering onto the table. "Sleep is for the weak!" He was pointedly ignoring how the second he'd sat down, he'd started to feel just weak enough for sleep. He plopped the fry into his mouth and ate it, ignoring the drip of cheese it left on the side of his mouth. "You'll love these! They're just the right mixture of cheap and greasy." He nodded and pushed the fries closer to Harvey then shifted in his seat so he could lean forward against the table, expectantly waiting and watching to see what the older man thought.

"Sleep is for the weak!"
Harvey looked at the fry being swung around in his face and slowly down at the droplets of cheese that the swinging had splattered the tabletop with. Well, at least now he knew why it was so sticky. Harvey thought that Axel still had way too much energy, all things considered - he had been stabbed, and under that (admittedly hilarious) t-shirt the stitched up wound had to be stinging like a sonuvab**h.
Axel shoved that first fry in his mouth, and the combination of his excitement and the glob of cheese on the corner of his lips brought a faint smile to Harvey's. Soon the boat of fries was shoved further onto his side of the table and Harvey blinked at Axel, who was almost bodily on top of it, eagerly waiting his first taste and judgment call.
Harvey rolled his eyes, took a fry and paused, thinking for a moment. With a smirk, he reached up and used the fry to scrape off the cheese on Axel's lip, then ate it. He made a big deal about thoughtfully chewing, hmm-ing and hum-ing, milking Axel's impatient anticipation. Harvey sighed in defeat, hanging his head. "You were right," he admitted, and braced himself for the supernova of smugness from the Trickster.
To help him weather the storm, Quinn reached over and grabbed another few fries, tossing them in his mouth. He wondered, idly, at how the longer he spent in Axel's company, the less annoying he was. In fact, a few other emotions were scrambling over that annoyance to try to choke it out. One of those had Harvey paying special attention to Axel's grin, and how adorable it was.

Despite what most - if not all - people must have thought about him, Axel wasn't the worst at dealing with pain. He could handle it well enough when he wanted to and being a criminal that was in constant clashes with speedsters meant he had quite the history with pain. That and it wasn't as if he'd had the best experiences with fellow criminals as well. He could still recall an encounter with the first Trickster that had left him beaten and thrown in a dumpster. He didn't like remembering that one. But he'd definitely been through worse than getting stabbed in the shoulder, which was why he was able to deal with the pain for the most part.
The most he showed was the briefest ghost of a grimace as Harvey took the fry. He could have whined about the pain more - his fellow Rogues probably would have expected as much from him and he would have had zero issues annoying them. But he was getting along with Harvey quite well now. He didn't want that to change, at least not yet. Axel's face suddenly felt quite hot when Harvey wiped the fry against his lip and then ate it. He stared at Harvey as he ate the fry, brain blanking like his red face.
He leaned forward against the table, almost startled out of his daze when Harvey finally admitted he was right. He grinned brightly. "I've yet to be wrong!" he said enthusiastically, "I've been keeping track." He hadn't but he didn't think he'd be challenged on that, expecting an eye-roll instead. He reached for more fries himself, specifically with the hand attached to the arm that wasn't attached to his wounded shoulder. His fingers brushed Harvey's before he pulled his hand back just enough to let the other man take some more fries before snatching some himself and messily cramming them into his mouth.
His mouth was even messier than before with cheese and of course he wiped it off on the sleeve of his sweatshirt. "I'd say I can take you to nicer places next," he teased, flicking his arm to the side to try to get some of the cheese off it, splattering a few drops on the cement beneath them. "But this is the nicest place I know." He leaned back in his seat, almost tipping out, legs straightening beneath the table and unconsciously brushing against Harvey's own legs. "But it has all you need!" he added, gesturing dramatically to the fries. "The Rogues never come here which is a shame!"
Axel returned to sitting normally only briefly before he was leaning forward, far over the table to be very closer to Harvey's face, wide eyes staring at him and grin on his face again. "Just imagine all the cheesy goodness we could get if we robbed this place!" It was admittedly a serious offer he'd been considering for years now.

The way Axel's face went limp and his cheeks flushed when Harvey cleaned his lip with a fry was satisfying enough to make the burden of admitting the shrimp was right bearable. Actually... The way Axel lit up - not slyly or mischievously, but with true and pure enthusiasm - made saying he was right okay enough in and of itself. Harvey watched him lazily, rolling his eyes, but not unkindly, when Axel claimed he'd never been wrong.
Harvey pursed his lips in a soft wince when Axel used his jacket's sleeve instead of, y'know, a napkin. With one hand, the junior Quinn reached out and started prying them, one-at-a-time from the dispenser that was against the wall, alongside the ketchup and mustard. He quirked a brow, lips curling silkily. "'Next'?" he asked, amused. "You'll have to earn a second date, Axel."
Trickster leaned back in his chair, feet straightening and brushing against Harvey's legs. With his empty hand, Harvey grabbed the boy's ankle and pulled it, rocking him forward so the all four legs of his chair were on the ground again. Axel wasn't going to be put off, though. Immediately he was almost crawling out of that chair, inches from Harvey's face, talking about robbing the greasy dive they were in.
"I don't discuss crime after work hours," Harvey said conversationally. Meanwhile, he busied himself, now that Axel was so close, by unfolding a napkin and tucking it into the other man's collar as a makeshift bib. With that done, he leaned back a half-inch and looked at Axel's face critically. Yeah, Quinn thought to himself, he's still cute.
And so, he added with a cunning glint to his eye, "Ask me again in the morning."

He arched an eyebrow when Harvey started collecting napkins for reasons that went completely over his head. Harvey didn't seem to need any. Did he collect them? That would have been an odd collection. Both brows shot up, however, at the mention of a date - and not just that but a second date. Axel, for the life of him, couldn't recall being asked out on the first date. He hadn't even known Harvey would be into men, let alone him.
He'd never met Harvey until earlier which meant they'd never done anything, and thus gone on a date, before. Did that mean... Was this a date? Did his face feel hotter? Was that even possible?
"Is - Is this a date?" he asked once he was able to find his voice again. He'd never been on a date before. No one had ever wanted to date him. He wasn't sure why; after all he was a catch, he thought. "I would've gotten us some cheeseburgers if I'd known," he added with an awkward laugh, eyes drifting off to the distance, hand coming up in an unconscious attempt to hide his burning face. "They're just like oozing with cheese. Best burgers - Probably not real beef but like real beef's overrated." He waved that same hand nonchalantly with another awkward laugh.
But then he realized Harvey was probably messing with him. After all even with his confidence, the fact was that no one had ever been interested in him before and he doubted that would change anytime soon. He just told himself he was too much for people to handle and that wasn't a bad thing.
"Oh!" he said suddenly, eyes back on Harvey. "You're messing with me, aren't you? Sarcasm and all that. Ha! Good one!" He laughed but the way he looked away and sunk back into his chair made it seem more likely that he wished it wasn't a joke.
He'd noted the exact second Harvey grasped his ankle, aware of every spot the end of his pants went up just enough for Harvey's fingers to brush skin. His face felt hot again. He was leaning forward even more, body threatening to tip the table, and pouted when Harvey said he didn't discuss crime after work hours.
"This is work?" he asked incredulously, brows knit together in confusion. "For me, this is my life." He shrugged then winced, quite visibly this time, at the sudden unexpected stab of pain that brought him, having forgotten about his injured shoulder somehow. He curiously watched, unaware of Harvey's eyes on his face, as the napkin was tucked into the collar of his shirt. He wasn't sure what good that would do but didn't protest, instead sitting back down in his seat.
Axel's face lit up at the mention of the morning - though he was pretty sure it was technically morning now; losing track of time seemed to be easy in Harvey's presence. "We're hanging out again?" he asked excitedly, "And here I'd thought you'd be sick of me." He grinned and playfully poked Harvey's knee with his foot under the table. "Or is someone-" he added before grabbing a fry and pointing at Harvey with it, "You - just avoiding going back and telling the big clown that you got conned by a trickster?"

Axel rocked back properly in his seat. Harvey propped his elbows on the table, lacing his fingers and watched the blond over them, brows raised, eyes faintly glittering, while he talked. And talked. And talked. Harvey didn't interrupt. Actually, the motor mouth was kind of adorable on Axel. He just waited, cataloging the list of things he'd have to counter when he was finally given an inch of room in their now-largely-one-sided conversation.
"Firstly," he said, "I don't work for that psychopath. I work for Harley Quinn, and you put her hyper-verbal tendencies to shame." Harvey paused, wondered if Axel understood what he meant, then smiled faintly and added, "You talk a lot." Quinn made sure to keep that soft smile in plain view so Axel wouldn't think that that fact annoyed or grated against him.
"Secondly, this is very much a date, you lucky thing. And, since you're so adorably dense I doubt you believe me, I can prove it." Harvey took his turn, then, to climb out of his seat and across the table. One palm braced on the tabletop, one knee on the edge of it, and the other hand reached out to grab Axel by the scruff and pull him closer. Axel's mouth tasted like cheesy fries but... then again, Harvey's probably did, too.
Harvey was probably definitely a little more... thorough than was absolutely necessary. Better safe than sorry, though, driving his point home.

Axel raised an eyebrow at Harvey's first statement. Did that mean the Joker and Harley Quinn weren't working together anymore? She wasn't his lackey anymore? How far out of the loop had he fallen? Sure it wasn't as if he tried to keep tabs on Gotham's villains but if Snart heard updates, he usually heard them too.
His brows knit together with confusion, not quite sure what hyper-verbal tendencies meant but then Harvey clarified and he made an O with his mouth. It wasn't the first time he'd been told he talked a lot. He didn't have any doubt that Evan thought he talked too much but he had a feeling deep down his Rogues teammate was fond of him - Evan would just never admit it, probably not even on his deathbed.
He'd just started registering that perhaps Harvey wasn't joking about this being a date when suddenly the older man was much closer to him. Axel was used to being grabbed and pulled closer so someone could yell at him, hit him, or arrest him - sometimes all three. But none of that came.
Instead he found his lips pressed against Harvey's, his eyes widening. He'd never kissed anyone before; he wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to do but then the kiss was deepened and he found himself making a noise he'd never heard before. When the kiss broke, all he wanted was to do that again.
It took him a moment to find his voice, wide eyes staring at Harvey, face bright red. When he managed to speak again, a playful smirk had found its way onto his face. "I guess you're the type to kiss on the first date," he said, tilting his head to the side, his smirk turning more into a gentle smile. "Two firsts in one date: First date, first kiss." He looked down at Harvey's hand that had grabbed him and pulled him closer before his eyes moved back up to the older man.
"What other firsts are you going to take?" he asked with a teasing grin and a laugh.

Harvey's eyes smoldered smugly and he smiled in content, velvety triumph when he finally peeled their lips apart. Axel was bright red, and there was a kind of hunger in the blond's eyes that hadn't been there before. Harvey was feeling very good about the whole thing when Axel finally found his voice again.
Now it was Harvey's turn to look surprised. Any feline satisfaction melted off his face. He blinked several times. It was such a foreign concept that someone as full-grown as Axel had never been kissed - combined with Harvey's very thorough education in the art since he was a pre-teen - that his brain had trouble grappling with it for a moment.
Axel snarked about what other "firsts" they'd check the boxes of, but the innuendo was lost on Harvey, who was still putting himself back together. "Your first-" he murmured. Mixed feelings churned through the deputy Quinn. Shock, surprise, a sense of honor at being someone's first kiss, but also guilt. His eyes finally refocused, looking down with Axel at the hand still holding his collar.
"I thought you were a little more-" Harvey shook his head. "No. That's my bad. Come on." He lead Axel out of the booth, out of the greasy dive and onto the street. He looked down both sides of the road and picked a direction at literal random, towing Axel behind him. Harvey took random turns, eyes peeled, ignoring any attempt at conversation from Axel the whole time.
He passed a locked iron gate, came to a stop, did a double take, turned around, still pulling Axel along, peered through the bars and smirked. Through the gate was some kind of outdoor restaurant or café, ringed in tall trellises and ivies, flowers and fountains. Even though it was closed for the evening, strung lights glittered all over the leaves - probably to discourage people from doing what Harvey was, just then.
The lock was picked easily enough and soon Harvey had pulled Axel to a final stop in front of a lily pad-covered pond beneath the twinkling strings of lights. "First kisses," he finally explained, very seriously, "should be memorable. Special. I'm sorry I stole yours. Maybe I can make up for it with the second, though." Harvey put his experience to the test, then, slowly pulling Axel closer, cupping his cheek and leaned in for a kiss just as tender and passionate as the first one had been blunt and decisive.

The surprise on Harvey's face wasn't what he'd been expecting when he'd admitted their kiss had been his first. He hadn't thought anything bad about having never kissed anyone until now. It'd sucked, yeah, but he didn't think it was such a bad fact to warrant the way any trace of satisfaction - quite the attractive look on Harvey - just vanished. Was his inexperience enough to make Harvey no long attracted to him, to make him no longer want him? The mere thought made his stomach twist and turn - or maybe that was the fries? He thought about prying Harvey's hand off him so he could sit back in his seat, his own smile deflating the longer Harvey looked surprised and... He thought there might have been some guilt thrown in there though he had no clue as to why.
Harvey's words only made his stomach churn more. He hadn't realized the other man had thought he had more experience in this regard. He had no clue what about himself had given that vibe off but apparently he had. Normally he wouldn't think such a thing was bad - perhaps even think it was useful - but he was worried Harvey would be disappointed. His face felt hot with embarrassment and he pulled his gaze away, settling for staring at the table.
But then Harvey continued talking and the two of them were getting up from their seats. Maybe he wanted to have this conversation in private? Though their table, despite being outside, had been pretty private at that time of night - day? Axel followed along, though he didn't have much of a choice in the matter. He didn't know where they were going, only had a guess as to why, and was still trying to figure out if his admission had affected Harvey's attraction to him. Thankfully Harvey wasn't pulling on the arm attached to his injured shoulder.
He just grew more confused when Harvey stopped then turned them around, Axel trying not to trip because his laces weren't tied right - on purpose, it was a look - and flopped around as his feet moved. He managed to catch his footing when Harvey stopped to pick a lock, eyes looking around to see where they were. He didn't think he'd ever been to this restaurant before. He certainly hadn't robbed it yet.
Oh! But wait - hadn't Harvey not wanted to discuss robbing some place because it was "after work hours" for him? Was discussing a crime different than committing it? Axel was already starting to try to remember which gadgets he still had on him when he was pulled past the gate only for them to stop in front of a pond. He opened his mouth to offer to raid the kitchen while Harvey took care of the cash registers but then Harvey was talking again and oh this wasn't about robbing the place.
He didn't have time to be disappointed about that because Harvey wasn't disappointed or upset with Axel's lack of experience. He didn't understand what about the previous kiss hadn't been memorable or special but didn't have time to ask before he found his cheek cupped, eyes easily finding Harvey's, and their lips pressed together once again. He reached forward with his hands, scrunching the fabric of Harvey's shirt between his fingers as his eyes fluttered close. He wasn't sure how long they kissed, his body practically leaning forward against Harvey, the world a blur around them, the only thing in focus the two of them.
By the time the kiss broke, his breath came out in huffs, eyes glossy, body still pressed against the other man's. He was soon grinning like a goof again, however, pressing a quick kiss against Harvey's lips before saying, "I like stealing," referencing Harvey's apology for stealing his first kiss and then adding, his goofy grin getting a cheeky edge to it, "I hope you plan on stealing more."
