Gender: Male
Archetype: Meta Hero
Aliases: Kon-El
Marital Status: Single
Affiliation: Teen Titans, Super-family
Subject Attributes
Meta-Human Abilities: Kryptonian Physiology - Like other Kryptonians, Conner's gains tremendous superhuman abilities when under a "yellow sun."
Solar Energy Absorption - Conner's cells function as a super battery, hyper metabolizing certain wavelengths of radiation that a "yellow sun" puts off into fuel for a vast array of powers.
Superhuman Strength - Superboy's strength is more an act of conscious will on energy fields rather than outright physical brawn, which enables him to accomplish feats beyond mere application of force, such as moving large masses of matter without causing them to crumble. Like others in the Super-family, Conner's strength is in the uppermost tier of superhuman classifications.
Superhuman Stamina - Conner can sustain physical activity indefinitely, and is only limited by his body's store of solar radiation, and physiological or psychological factors - growing mentally fatigued; needing to eat or drink, etc.
Superhuman Speed - Superboy is able to move at speeds that go toe-to-toe with super-speedsters such as members of the Flash family. This extends to his perceptions, reflexes and agility, enabling him to catch bullets in mid-flight, as an example.
Superhuman Hearing - He can hear sounds at any volume or pitch. Through concentration Superboy can cut out ambient noises, honing in on specific ones on a global scale.
Enhanced Vision - Conner's vision processes the entire electromagnetic spectrum, as well as allowing vast control over selective perception and focus. He can see and identify radio and television signals as well as all other broadcast or transmitted frequencies. Using this ability, he can avoid detection by radar or satellite monitoring methods. Supreboy also has telescopic/microscopic vision - the ability to see things at tremendous distances, or zoom in on aspects; x-ray vision - the ability to see through any volume except lead; and infrared vision - enabling him to see acutely in semi-darkness and somewhat in complete, total darkness.
Heat Vision - Superboy can emit concentrated heat from his eyes, which he can choose the intensity and area of affect for - from compact beams able to melt solid matter in an instant to broad swaths of warmth.
Self-sustained Flight - He can propel himself through the air unaided through sheer force of will. This ranges from stationary hovering to outpacing military-grade jets.
Invulnerability - Superboy's body is nigh-invulnerable due to his superhumanly dense cellular and anatomical structure as well as his radiating bio-electrical aura. Under some circumstances resistant or immune to nearly all forms of damage as well as toxins and all known diseases on Earth.
Super-Breath - Conner can exhale hurricane-force winds from his lungs. He can also consciously super-cool the air. Additionally, Superboy can draw inhuman volumes of air into his lungs.
Superhuman Longevity - So long as his body is under a yellow sun absorbing its wavelengths of solar radiation regularly, Superboy's body does not physically age past its physiological prime.
Tactile Telekinesis - Conner has an invisible telekinetic force field that surrounds his body, which he can use in myriad ways to augment or supplant his other abilities (particularly his strength, invulnerability, flight and hearing). Superboy can consciously expand this telekinetic field to free him from restraints or grasps;immobilize others by snaring them in this field so long as they're sharing bodily contact - either directly or through other matter; telekinetically disassemble or detonate objects; and emit blasts of telekinetic force from his body, usually concentrated from his hands.
Standard Abilities: Hand-to-hand Combat - During Conner's time in the thirtieth century with the Legion of Super-heroes, he trained with Karate Kid and became a moderate hand-to-hand combatant even disregarding his augmented physiology.
Paraphernalia: Uniform - Conner's suit as Superboy is almost as indestructible as he is, able to withstand an incredible amount of punishment, moving at speeds and velocities that he does without friction turning it to dust, etc.
TT Communicator - Superboy has a Teen Titans communicator that he can use to remotely correspond with any other TT Communicator, either to call for help from other Titans or be summoned to help them.
Subject Weaknesses: Kryptonian Physiology - Without sufficient stores or recharging of solar radiation from a yellow sun, Superboy's powers dwindle and fade until ultimately he's a normal human being. Though he would still have his tactile telekinesis.
Kryptonite - This native mineral from Krypton has the same effect on Conner as any other Kryptonian; it is highly volatile and poisonous to him, sapping his powers just by being in the presence of it.
Magic - Superboy is completely vulnerable to magical interference. His powers provide absolutely no resistance to it.
Psionics - Conner's mind is similarly just as susceptible to psychic, telepathic, etc attacks as an average human.
Subject History
Following the death of Superman at the hands of Doomsday, Project Cadmus genetically engineered a replacement for him using fifty-percent of the Kryptonian's DNA and fifty-percent of a human donor's: Lex Luthor. This clone, Experiment Thirteen, was artificially aged and implanted with a high-school student's knowledge - both academic and worldly. Though Cadmus intended to match the clone's age to the original Superman, he escaped his test tube prematurely, emerging as a teenager who was unaware of his human DNA donor.
The clone traveled to Metropolis and started going by "Superman," alongside three others who tried to take up the same mantel. He met and was honest about his origins to Lois Lane and quickly built a reputation for himself in the city. Though initially obsessed with fame and arrogantly naive, after his actions lead to the death of a Daily Planet helicopter pilot, the clone was humbled and sobered. He met Supergirl for the first time shortly thereafter when they saved civilians from a collapsing bridge together.
The clone was tricked by Cyborg Superman and imprisoned in Engine City. When he escaped, he rushed back to Metropolis in time to witness the original Superman's return in a giant Kryptonian warsuit. The clone helped his predecessor fight Cyborg Superman, personally redirecting a missile launched from Engine City so that it wouldn't hit Metropolis. After this, the clone relinquished the mantel of Superman back to the original and formally took on the name "Superboy." At the start of a world tour to establish himself as an individual, Superboy returned to Cadmus, where he was told he wasn't, in fact, a clone of Superman, but was a genetically engineered human who, through tactile telekinesis, was able to mimic Superman's powers believably.
With Dubbilex as his chaperone, Superboy ended up briefly settling in Hawaii where he had a series of adventures. During the Clone Plague, Superboy was whisked back to Metropolis where he was cured and narrowly survived it. He stayed there in the ensuing conflict that decimated most of Metropolis, and remained afterward to help pick up the pieces and protect the city. En route back to Hawaii he stopped in Smallville, where he first met Ma and Pa Kent, as well as an alternate reality's Superboy. He learned not only that the director of Cadmus was his alleged DNA donor, but that Superboy was the thirteenth experiment in the quest to replace Superman, and that the first had become Bizarro Superboy, who escaped the lab's captivity and died shortly after. When Superboy made it back to Hawaii he officially celebrated his one year birthday.
From there, Superboy went through a whirlwind of adventures and encounters while protecting the Hawaiian islands, working alongside countless costumed personas and battling just as many costumed enemies. He attended high school and began a romantic relationship with Tana Moon. The Alpha Centurion recruited Superboy (alongside Supergirl, the Eradicator and Steel) to allegedly save Superman, who was kidnapped by the Tribunal. Cyborg Superman attacked and defeated the group, delivering them over to Tribunal custody. Superboy and the rest of his team broke out of containment and, together with Superman, confronted the Tribunal directly, who conceded their misjudgment and exonerated Superman of his criminal charges.
Superboy briefly traveled to the thirtieth century to help the Legion of Super-heroes and was made an honorary member, even being given one of their flight rings before being sent back to his period in time. Superboy then formed a partnership with Knockout and battled a series of threats alongside her. Following a mistake that occurred when the Female Furies attacked and revealed Knockout to be one of their lost sisters, Superboy went on the run with his teammate from the law, breaking up with Tana. This period ended in Superboy apprehending Knockout when she showed her true colors, needlessly murdering a man.
Superboy had a small adventure in space, and afterward rekindled his relationship with Tana. An organization called the Agenda orchestrated Superboy's abduction and used him to engineer an enhanced clone called Match. Superboy defeated Match before an army of him could be created, and upended the Agenda organization, leading to their collective arrests. Agenda had, however, injected a disease in Superboy that was breaking down his DNA. When the symptoms began to manifest he was taken back to Project Cadmus, where he was cured. More back-to-back adventures had Superboy return to Hawaii, where Tana ended their relationship after a bout of troubles. Public opinion continued to dwindle about Superboy in Hawaii and abroad, and severely disheartened and crestfallen, he disappeared when caught in a freak storm en route back to the islands.
He ended up stranded for several months on in the Wild Lands with anthropomorphic animal/human hybrids called the Wild Men that were created from a precursor to Project Kadmus. When Superboy made it back to Hawaii he discovered most of his friends had, in his months-long disappearance, moved on with their lives - most of them even leaving Hawaii. Feeling nothing left for him there, Superboy left his long-time protectorate. He returned to Project Cadmus and began working as a field agent alongside Dubbilex and Guardian for a time. It was then that, during a camp-out with Bart Allen/Impulse and Tim Drake/Robin, Superboy found two life-long best friends and together with them founded Young Justice under Red Tornado.
Following several more assignments and escapades as an agent of Project Cadmus, Superboy was invited to join Superman in the Fortress of Solitude. There, Superman explained how he was a part of his family, and offered him the Kryptonian name "Kon-El," which Superboy tearfully accepted. From that new name he developed the name "Conner" to use in wider society. Next, Conner fought an evil alternate reality version of himself called Black Zero and, leading a miniature army of other alternate reality versions of himself against the reality-hopping villain, defeated him and returned to his own reality. It was during this event that Conner discovered Superman's secret identity, and was hurt that his closest relative hadn't confided it in him.
As a Cadmus agent Superboy returned to the Wild Lands and a run-in with the Demon, Etrigan over an enchanted gauntlet, he returned to Hawaii to tie up loose ends, seeing too much of Black Zero in himself at the time. Conner tried to reconnect with his former friends and allies, but doing so only reassured him that nothing would ever be the same, and he took Krypto with him back to Cadmus. Shortly thereafter the Agenda and Gene-Gnome attacked and took over Cadmus, forcing Superboy and his allies to retreat. Following a convoluted series of events with Match, Director Beta and Klarion the witch boy as the villains, Agenda was defeated and Conner's age-locked genetics cured. However, a traitorous colleague of Cadmus, Dr Roquette, as revenge for the death of her father she blamed on Superboy, murdered his former love, Tana, just after they reunited.
Klarion was eventually defeated, but when the age-reversal spell he'd used on the JLA and Young Justice dispersed, it left Conner de-powered. All at once, though, he felt the fundamentals of his life changing. Desperate to hold onto one constant, and to keep up the good fight, powers or no, Conner turned to the Gadget Guru and was outfitted with tech that let him continue his work as Superboy. During an encounter with a solar-powered escaped alien slave and a clash with their slaver, Kossak, Superboy's powers were restored and he gifted the indestructible shield the Gadget Guru had given him to Guardian. With the newly reformed Titans's help, Conner separated the alien from Roxy, who it'd bonded to.
Conner fell into a depressed rut, next, but speaking with Clark gave him perspective. He determined he needed a change, signifying this by wearing a new costume. Events at Cadmus spiraled, then after Lex Luthor was elected President, including the death of Guardian by a criminal named Shrapnel - and his soul's subsequent transition into the body of one of his clones. Ultimately Luthor had the project shut down, leaving its HQ abandoned except for his teammates in Young Justice, who he had to explain the situation to. Afterward, Conner joined with Kara and Clark to try to thwart Luthor's plans, but ended up being put under military arrest and imprisoned on a spaceship in Earth's orbit.
On the ship, Superboy battled General Good and the DNAngels (until they had a crisis of conscience and defected), freed a now-nearly-adult Guardian and helped him destroy the clone army that Good was rearing. Things were interrupted by Apokolips's arrival in Earth's orbit. General Rock arrived, arrested Good, and drafted Superboy. Conner began helping injured heroes, until President Luthor ordered him to lead Young Justice in a mission to infiltrate Apokolips that ended with them captured by Granny Goodness. Ultimately the team escaped but Conner fled to Kent Farm in Smallville to try to recover psychologically, having witnessed massive amounts of death and the emotional scarring of some of his closest friends.
Superboy briefly relocated to Metropolis, then, when Wonder Girl insisted he leave Young Justice. When his time there lead to his tenement building's destruction, Clark took him back to Kent Farm. He stayed there for a considerable amount of time until Superman suggested he join the Teen Titans. He did, but was immediately put into a deeply conflicted state when, the first night on the team, it was revealed to him that all of his previously believed origins were lies: in reality, his DNA was fifty-percent Superman's and fifty-percent Lex Luthor's. Superboy was a steadfast member of the team for some time until, in a climactic battle with Superboy-Prime, Conner was tragically killed.
In the Thirtieth Century, Superboy was resurrected by Brainiac 5. He helped the Legion of Super-heroes briefly, then was returned back to his own time period to reunite with his friends. Conner stayed with Ma Kent after her husband's passing, began attending Smallville High School again, and rejoined the Teen Titans formally alongside Bart Allen. Superboy was inducted into the Black Lantern Corps when Nekron attacked earth but, thanks to the help of his friends, made it out of the event unscathed.
Subject Interview
Conner didn't think of himself as an anxious or nervous person. In fact, he was probably a little too much the opposite for most tastes, if he was being honest. But, when he stood there, fussing with the collar of his jacket for probably the thirtieth time, he wondered at the nerves jittering through his skin.
This new, concrete formation of a new, concrete group of Teen Titans felt weirdly more significant and pivotal than the ones before it. Maybe because it was actually intentional, this time, instead of a new team just falling together by circumstances and necessity? The last time Conner could remember a roster being put together so purposefully as this was the first time he'd set foot in the Tower.
More than the lineup was changing, too. Leadership was swapping hands, and Conner couldn't have been more proud or supportive of Cassie taking the helm. Superboy, himself, felt different, and like he had formally and healthily resolved the emotional and psychological problems that'd come along with returning from the dead. All of that still didn't explain the nerves - or maybe it did? Conner couldn't tell anymore. It did explain his reflection, though.
Superboy had felt like a new uniform would do a good job of signifying on the outside the changes that'd gone on inside... Or some psychologist mumbo-jumbo that Tim could - and probably would - explain a lot better than him. The full-body suit with the S spread over its chest, and matching, studded leather jacket and belt accessories were an intentional callback to his earlier looks. Before the simple black T-shirt and beat up jeans.
Conner plucked at his jacket one last time, then sighed, aggravated at himself, and left his room at the Tower before he could get lost in more thoughts in front of his mirror. Superboy was so impatient he poured on the speed, arriving in the formal room for the inaugural meeting in the blink of an eye. That was a mistake, because no one else was there. Conner looked around the room needlessly and huffed a breath, throwing himself down into one of the seats.
When the door opened, Superboy jumped right back up, caught somewhere between sheepish and relieved to see Cassie. "Oh, hi," he said. "Guess I'm early. That's a first, right?" Conner smiled, happy to see that he wasn't the only one who'd decided to update their super-wardrobe. "Nice threads," he acknowledged, nodding approvingly, and stuffed the urge to ask "how do I look," down deep - because it was stupid to care as much as he suddenly did about what his teammates thought of his new costume. Or that's what he told himself.
