Subject Attributes
Meta-Human Abilities:
Kryptonian Physiology: Superman's cellular structure is more dense, resilient and biologically more effective than human tissue. Strangely enough, he does not seem to possess superhuman strength levels despite his enhanced cellular ability without constant exposure to yellow solar energy. Without such charging, his strength seems on par for a human of his height and weight who engages in regular physical activity. As an alien he possess several organs whose functions are not yet disclosed or understood but are believed to be part of and perhaps even the source of his bio-matrix force field and reclamation aura. Superman's body also stores energy actively within his bio-cellular matrix as an energy pattern that is linked to his body's electromagnetic field. This energy powers most of Superman's electromagnetic capabilities such as flight and heat vision. It also supplements his physical strength by a factor of 12,000 times or so.
- Solar Energy Absorption: Technically, this is the main source of Superman's powers. Because Superman's powers are greatly due to exposure to Earth's yellow sun, his powers have been affected by extreme absorptions of solar power, whether voluntary or involuntary. However, Superman has used this to his advantage in battle in many instances, and to his detriment at certain times.
- Superhuman Strength: While the exact magnitude of Superman's strength is unknown, it is generally accepted that his strength easily surpasses the capacity to lift 100 tons, but how much more is not known exactly. This is because Superman's strength, like his other powers, has fluctuated over time. Technically Superman can augment his super strength to near infinite levels where he is has able to literally move planets from one solar system to another barehanded. Though he doesn't do this for fear of doing harm, but he can become "supercharged" and exceed his "normal" power levels as evident when his power absorption ability ran amok which needed the Parasite to drain off his excessive power levels. Currently he only maintains enough strength to do battle without killing, but not enough to move asteroid sized objects on his own.
- Invulnerability: Superman's body is nigh-invulnerable (Has survived LOW yield nuclear explosions where he was in direct contact with a ten megaton detonation bomb but was knocked unconscious as a result). This ability's levels have changed over time, at times allowing him to fly into a sun and emerge unharmed, as evident most recently through Krypton's red sun and survive. Superman has even been shown withstanding Darkseid's Omega Effect, a feat that was previously considered impossible. In addition, his immune system protects him from toxins and diseases. The most common explanations for his invulnerability are Superman having a super-dense molecular structure and/or a supercharged bio-electric "aura" which acts as an invisible "force field" around his body within a few millimeters from his skin, and presumably within his body as well.
The proximity of this field to his skin means that loose clothes, for example, may be burned off of him, while cloth that is close to his body is protected by the "aura;" This phenomenon is sometimes cited as Superman's reason for wearing a skin-tight bodysuit. It is sometimes implied that he can unconsciously extend this field to an undetermined extent to protect a greater area, allowing him to carry huge objects within the Earth's atmosphere and without gravity or inertia tearing them apart around his human-sized hands.- Healing factor: Due to the highly charged nature of his solar storage systems, his immune system deals with most normal poisons and diseases quickly and with no ill effect. Radiation and similar harmful energies are similarly neutralized. Should Superman's invulnerability prove to be ineffective, his body has a hyper-regenerative ability that allows him to recover from wounds faster than the average person, as demonstrated when Wonder Woman busted his ear drums and slit open his throat when he was mind controlled by Maxwell Lord.
- Superhuman Stamina: Superman has the ability to maintain continuous strenuous physical action for an undefined period. Theoretically, Superman has unlimited stamina as his enhanced nourishment is produced from the solar energy his cells process; however his base physical structure still does need to process food stuffs as well as has the psychological need to eat and drink just as Earth humans do, despite the fact that his superhuman powers receives the majority of that power from a yellow sun. He does require sleep on occasion so he can dream and to not suffer mental fatigue. He can also hold his breath for an undefined duration.
- Flight: This ability allows Superman to maneuver precisely in any direction, as well as just hover. The mechanism by which he flies is unknown, but some suggestions have been a field of energy allowing unconscious manipulation of gravity or diffraction/reflection of gravity due to unidentified Kryptonian organs affected by a yellow sun, or psionic manipulation of a personal anti-gravitational aura, which is also caused by his Kryptonian cells and a yellow sun. Superman is capable of flight in a planet's atmosphere and has limited ability to fly in outer space.
- Superhuman Speed: Superman is capable of enhanced reflex action and the ability to move at incredible speeds by sheer force of will. He is not as fast as the Flash, but he can achieve faster than light speed under his own power in space. Superman can match most other speedsters in their ability to perform super-fast movements, reactions, and processes. He can use this power to disarm opponents who do not have heightened reflexes, catch bullets or shrapnel or cross vast distances in seconds.
- Enhanced Senses: Superman possesses greatly enhanced senses.
- Telescopic Vision: The ability to "zoom in" the distance to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics. The total telescopic ability is unprecedented, but limited to some extent.
- Electro-magnetic Spectrum Vision: Superman can see well into most of the EM Spectrum. He can see and identify radio/television and any and all broadcast/transmitted frequencies, allowing him to avoid detection through radar or satellite monitoring methods. Superman can see the paranormal aura that every living thing generates.
- X-Ray Vision: The ability to see through anything except lead. He can see things behind a wall as if the wall were not there, or can "peel back" layer after layer of matter in his mind. Opponents sometimes used lead-lined constructs in an attempt to hide things from Superman. Kal-El is able to focus his vision past layers of matter, literally seeing "through" them -- possibly perceiving x-rays, cosmic rays or other forms of energy invisible to normal human vision which pass through Earth's atmosphere (and solid objects) after emission from stars. Since it is passive, this ability would not generate harmful radiation in the same manner as a focused projection of hard X-rays.
- Microscopic Vision: The ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the atomic level (normal optical microscopes can only see objects down to the size of chromosomes).
- Infrared Vision: Superman has the ability detect heat patterns or see objects by enhancing what minimal amount of light is present in a poorly lit area, allowing him the ability to see in total darkness.
- Superhuman Hearing: Superman possesses the ability to hear any sound at any volume or pitch. The only Earth creature who can detect sounds at the frequency he can is a blue whale (0.01-200,000 Hz). He has shown enough control to block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source/frequency. He can identify a person by their heartbeat, or pick out a single voice in an entire city.
- Telescopic Vision: The ability to "zoom in" the distance to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics. The total telescopic ability is unprecedented, but limited to some extent.
- Heat Vision: Superman has demonstrated ability to fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it with the conscious act of activating this power. Visually, the power is typically depicted as two beams of red light firing from his eyes. These beams can be made invisible, allowing Superman to work undetected. The maximum temperature of his heat vision is said to be around that of a nuclear detonation. The area of effect can be consciously determined by Superman, down to the microscopic level. He emits light along various frequencies in high energy bursts that flash-melts materials in seconds, weaken structural integrity over a smaller area, such as melting the barrel of a gun but leaving the handle untouched. Superman can control his heat vision and direct it wherever he wants to with his eyes.
In actuality, Superman could not emit the beams directly from his eyes. The energy is actually built upon the surface of the bio-energetic field surrounding his body and emitted from there. This allows his body to be protected from the energy and absorbing stray electromagnetic energy back into his body. Superman's energy reclamation aura is so efficient that any radiation, even those emitted from him, once in the environment are able to be reabsorbed. The heat beams are psionically controlled and that control is reflexive, so he can shut it off without accidentally damaging anything that he does not want to. He can emit the radiation visibly or invisibly at lower settings. His energy has a high visibility profile if emitted at higher levels. - Superhuman Lung Capacity: Superman can breathe in large amounts of air, an ability used when dealing with and disposing of things like clouds of poison gas. He is also able to create hurricane-force winds by blowing. He is able to hold her breath for a maximum of four hours without anything disrupting his concentration.
- Freeze Breath: By further controlling the way he expels air from his lungs, Superman can create a low temperature wave that chills the moisture in the air to a freezing temperature, allowing him to freeze objects.
Standard Abilities:
Hand to Hand Combat: Because of his fights throughout the years, and from extensive training at the hands of Mongul during the Imperiex incident, Superman has over time become an excellent hand-to-hand fighter utilizing a fighting style that directly complements his superpowers. Superman has been trained in boxing, according to Captain Comet his brawling skills are formidable, by Wonder Woman in Amazonian combat, and even learned some advanced martial arts techniques from Batman. Batman even complimented Clark, by agreeing that he can take care of himself, even without powers.
- Torquasm Rao: A heavy-hitting martial art from Krypton. Allows him to tap into his instincts and separate himself from his body. It also allows him to prevent others from manipulating his mind and allows him to fight on the astral plane.
Indomitable Will: Superman has shown to have a powerful spirit, free of corruption and temptation. Having been raised by a kindly Kansas farmer and his wife, he was taught to protect life and help others. He is very optimistic and never gives up, even when things look bad. Superman has learned how to place mental inhibitors on his own power so that he doesn't accidentally "flex and cause the tectonic plates to shift." To him, they are the barriers that allow him to feel human enough to live a healthy life, and he only ever releases one of them when fighting a particularly powerful opponent or performing a difficult task.
- Torquasm Vo: Torquasm Vo is a Kryptonian discipline that Superman uses sometimes. It is basically a means of focusing one's mental discipline to help fight adverse effects such as mental domination. It can be used to manipulate someone's mind. Superman used that ability during his fight against the Eradicator. It was used to create an illusion to let Superman enter inside the Eradicator.
Journalism: Clark is one of the best reporters on the Daily Planet, rivaled only by his wife Lois Lane. He gained a Pulitzer Prize at least on one occasion.
Leadership: Superman has proven many times over his ability to command respect and inspire others with his charisma, ardor, and idealism. He often serves as the primus inter pares of the Justice League.

Paraphernalia: N/A
Subject Weaknesses:
- Magic: Superman is also vulnerable to magical effects. Although he is no more detrimentally affected by such effects than a normal human would be, this is a significantly exploitable weakness in comparison to his incredible physical resilience.
- Psionics: Superman can and has been harmed by psionic attacks in the past. He is vulnerable to telepathic manipulation and suggestion, as demonstrated by both Manchester Black and Maxwell Lord. Lord wormed his way into Superman's mind so deeply that Wonder Woman was forced to kill Lord in order to free Superman.
- Kryptonite: The fatal flaw in Kryptonian cellular physiology is the unique radiation given off by kryptonite. In the most minute amounts, the radiation waveforms and high-energy particles emitted by kryptonite can react catastrophically with the very ribosomal chemical that grant a Kryptonian powers. The briefest contact can strip these powers, and further begin a fatal poisoning that totally shuts down cellular activity in the affected areas.
As Kryptonite radiation makes its way through the bloodstream, a Kryptonian becomes instantly weak and ill in its unshielded presence, and prolonged exposure will render him unconscious (after 30 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the sample, and the current state of his solar reserves), and will eventually (after two to four hours) reach all parts of his body and bring death, usually as the body's immune system attempts to expel the deadly toxin. However, the rate of recovery once removed from the emissions is as rapid as the rate of damage, and the Kryptonian will be back to normal in under an hour after exposure in optimal conditions. Kryptonite emissions can be blocked by lead and other super-dense materials. Lengthy, prolonged exposure to Kryptonite radiation is proven to cause cancer in humans. - Lead: X-ray vision cannot penetrate lead or lead-lined walls.
- Solar Energy Dependency: Superman requires solar energy to function at peak capacity, or his powers fade to greatly reduced levels, some disappearing entirely if his solar reserves are empty. Superman cannot absorb energy from the lower frequency orange O-class stars and cannot process the higher-frequency White K or blue F classes. Blue B and yellow G type stars are ideal.
Superman can easily survive conditions in deep space, but he does need to breathe, eat, sleep, and excrete. Superman requires four hours of sleep a night to function at peak mental efficiency, as well needing to dream at least half an hour a night, or experience the psychological effects of sleep deprivation as would any other person who missed a night of sleep. When his solar energy is depleted, his resistance to physical punishment drops to approximately one-quarter the normal amount. Withstanding large amounts of damage continuously over time will rapidly deplete his solar reserves. Further, the radiation signature of the red sun of the Krypton system (and similar M-class stars) instantly causes the ribosomal structures to lose their stored energy, reducing a Kryptonian to normal humanoid levels.
- Sensory Overload: With his extremely acute senses, Superman can be overtaxed to the point of pain when encountered by extreme external stimuli such as hypersonics (hearing), balance, and flashbangs (sight)
- Lois Lane: Superman's bond to Lois is undeniable, it transcends even destiny. Every Superman of every incarnation, every Earth, and every possible timeline, has some romantic tie to Lois Lane. That bond to Lois is one that is commonly exploited by super villains, often seen in false visions of her death to spur Superman into mindless rage-induced rampages. Batman has even exploited this weakness to counteract one of those rampages. When Superman fell under Ivy's mind control Lois Lane was the only thing that could pull him from under her spell.
- Lenient: Superman is oft called the Big Blue Boyscout, namely for his reluctance to maim and/or kill villains. Most of the League's enemies know they can't contend with Supes but in the long run they would much rather deal with him over Batman or Wonder Woman, who are known to cause severe bodily harm. Superman has only ever deemed universal threats necessary to end permanently, and even that is after exhausting numerous chances to surrender and face a trial for their crimes.
Subject History
The planet Krypton fell because of its inhabitants own hubris, ignoring the warnings of their top scientists who wished only to save their world. And so a scientist by the name of Jor-El, unable to save the world he loved, gave his only son to the cosmos. His hope was that Kal-El would live and escape the mistakes of his people, and hopefully make some other world better.
Kal-El's space-faring rocket was discovered by the kindly Jonathan and Martha Kent, who raised him as their son Clark Kent in the town of Smallville, Kansas. His upbringing provided him with strong moral values, and life-long friends Lana Lang and Pete Ross. His parents encouraged him to learn controlling his powers but never wished to stifle him, it was his parents who thought Clark would go on to do great things with his abilities. After school and university Clark got himself a job at the Daily Star in Metropolis, it was here that he decided he would become a hero. Martha was able to craft Clark a suit designed after the blanket he had arrived to Earth with, and when Clark debuted in the city he quickly earned the moniker of Superman, given to him by none other than Lois Lane.
Clark Kent would soon transfer to the Daily Planet where he would formally meet Lois Lane. He could tell the woman was initially suspicious of him but the Kryptonian did a well enough job to distance Clark Kent from Superman that Lois could not figure him out. The two formed a friendship that would eventually grow deep enough into a romance that Clark proposed and finally outed himself as Superman.
Along with other heroes who had began popping up across the US, Superman formed the Justice League, to protect all of the world from criminal masterminds and universal conquerors alike. This League proved no more necessary than when the monster known as Doomsday attacked. After days of rampaging across the continental U.S. and beating several heroes along the way, Superman and Doomsday had a final showdown in Metropolis. Though the monster fell and lives were saved there were still numerous casualties, one of them being Superman. Superman was buried with full honors, with hundreds of heads of state and several hundred thousand onlookers present, beneath a large statue in Centennial Park. The Justice League and other heroes marched behind the casket, following their leader (official or not) one last time. Lois, Lana, and the Kents were all devastated. The family decided to keep the secret that Superman and Clark Kent were one and the same, while Cadmus stole the body from the tomb. Supergirl retrieved the body from Cadmus, prompting Lex Luthor to gloat that while he may not have killed Superman, by providing the tomb, he at least "buried him."
Following the Death of Superman, Johnathan Kent suffered a heart attack and while being rushed to the hospital he had an encounter with Superman's spirit, where Johnathan encouraged his son to fight his way back to the living world. After Johnathan awoke from his near-death experience and he told Lois and Martha that Superman had returned, sightings of four different beings, all claiming to be Superman, emerge in Metropolis: "The Man of Tomorrow,"(Cyborg Superman) "The Last Son of Krypton,"(Eradicator) "The Man of Steel,"(Steel) and "The Metropolis Kid."(Superboy)
Of these four Supermen two claim to actually be a resurrected Superman, while The Man of Steel is actually John Henry Irons in an iron suit and the Metropolis Kid claims to be a clone of the original Superman. The true Superman however had been placed in a regeneration matrix and bombarded by sunlight by the Eradicator who was acting as Superman in the time being. When the real Superman awoke in the Fortress of Solitude he had to don a battle armor suit to further stabilize his weakened state. Kal-El returns at a time right after the exposed Cyborg Superman had obliterated Coast City. He teams with Supergirl, Superboy, Steel, and Hal Jordan to defeat Cyborg Superman and Mongul.
In time Clark and Lois were wed, with Jimmy Olsen and Lucy Lane as best man and maid of honor. Mongul arrived on Earth, seeking help from Superman to deal with a threat facing the entire galaxy—the threat of Imperiex. Superman began special training with Mongul while Jimmy discovered a photograph of Superman wearing a wedding band. Superman confided in Jimmy that he was actually married (though he does not say to whom) before going off into space with Mongul to battle Imperiex near Jupiter. The two succeed in destroying the construct Imperiex was building to destroy the Sol system. Predictably, Mongul then turned on Superman, but Superman had expected this and had a contingency plan in place. Superman turned Mongul over to Lobo before flying home to Lois—but unknown to him, the being defeated was not the true Imperiex, but merely one of his thousands of drones.
Superman and Wonder Woman were transported to Asgard and forced to fight in a battle with the Norse gods against an army of demons for one thousand years. Even after a thousand years, when they were facing certain death and had no idea if they would ever get home, Superman remained faithful to Lois. Fortunately, after the war was won, Superman was transported to the same day he left.
Mister Mxyzptlk shows up thereafter, causing his greatest disaster ever when he decides to visit the Joker at the Slab and is tricked into giving Joker 99.9 percent of his power. The Joker used the awesome power of Mister Mxyzptlk to remake the entire universe in his own twisted image. Superman tried to rally the JLA and his other allies in a desperate struggle against the Joker, who is committed to first torturing all of creation and then hoping to destroy it. He brutally killedSuperman's friends and loved ones before his eyes. A surreal battle ensues before Superman managed to discover the "rule" that lets him defeat the Joker—the Joker cannot exist without Batman. Everything is put back as it was, with no one really remembering what had happened (save for Superman). Batman (who had been horribly tortured by Joker over and over) still remembers every minute of it at first, but Superman asks the Spectre to transfer the memories... into the Joker.
Lex Luthor, regarded as a national hero for his perceived role in The Final Night, Y2K and No Man's Land was elected President of the United States, with Pete Ross as his Vice President. Superman was very upset over the news. Batman confronted the President-elect and demanded the return of the Kryptonite ring, but Luthor called his bluff and did not turn it over. Lana vowed to keep Superman's secret no matter what, and Batman promised Superman that Luthor would be taken down in due time. Superman brooded over the turn of events all the way through the end of the year, although by Christmas, Lois and he tried to make the best of the situation. Superman gave gifts to the members of the JLA. While Diana tells him to spend time with Lois instead of focusing on Luthor because of the year the two had, he gifts a Mjolnir replica to Wonder Woman as a reminder of their time in Asgard, resulting in the two sharing a kiss. To Batman he gifts a magnifying glass from Lois and he promises to take Luthor down. Clark and Lois later decided to take a few days off to visit Kandor alone.
Sometime later Superman encountered an ultra-violent team of "heroes" called the Elite, led by Manchester Black, who believed that the best way to stop the bad guys is to terminate them. Superman, vastly underpowered compared to their team, forced a confrontation on one of Jupiter's moons where he was able to defeat them without killing anyone, proving his way is best. Black is then taken into custody but swore he'll have vengeance.
Superman discovered Brainiac manipulating Lois—or so he thought. After a battle with Brainiac in the Fortress of Solitude, Superman discovers blood on his hands; then the JLA and the JSA turn up, ordering him to surrender himself for what he has done. Superman tries to remember what happened, but instead of a battle with Brainiac, he recalls a fight with Darkseid. The JLA concede that it seemed like Superman is being manipulated. When he asked whose blood was on his hands, the team took him to the Watchtower and showed him the badly beaten body of Batman.
The League determined that Maxwell Lord is responsible for manipulating Superman with the false memories, but before they can put Superman in a transporter tube, Max began his manipulations anew and compelled Superman to flee the Watchtower, with Wonder Woman hot on his heels. Superman, believing that he has just seen Doomsday murder his wife, attacked Diana with all his might. Diana put up a good defense though, and proved to be a match for Superman, pulling out all the stops. She managed to stun and even injure him, and then proceeded to wrap Lord up in her Lasso of Truth, demanding to know how to free the Man of Steel from his influence. Max stated he'll just do it again and replies the only way to stop him is to kill him (Lord). Diana snaps Max's neck—an event recorded by the Brother Eye satellite and broadcast around the world. Superman is freed—but at a terrible price.
Alexander Luthor of Earth-Two is out to find "the perfect Earth." In order to keep most of the world distracted, he ordered the Secret Society of Super-Villains to drop Chemo over Blüdhaven. Chemo detonates, killing over 100,000 people instantly, and leaving the city irradiated with poisonous clouds. Superman arrived, leading a cadre of heroes who can withstand the toxicity to try to rescue who they could. Chemo began to reform, and Superman engaged, knowing that Chemo would reform quicker as he reabsorbed the poison back into himself. Once it was all gone, Superman hurled Chemo into space.
When Earth-Two came back into existence it brought back that Earth's Superman, Kal-L, and in his confusion clashed with Superman. With the aid of Wonder Woman's lasso they were able to get Kal-L to join them in trying to stop Alexander and Superboy Prime.
J'onn J'onzz, aware of Prime's plan to destroy the universe by flying through Oa at lightspeed, alerts everyone who can fly to try to stop the insane Prime, but he is too fast. In deep space, Guy Gardner and a coalition of Green Lanterns managed to stop Prime long enough for Kal-El and Kal-L to grab him. Not fast enough to take him back to the Speed Force, the two Supermen fly Prime to Krypton's solar system—and straight through its red sun. After they flew through it, they crashed on Mogo, surrounded by kryptonite. Prime's suit was destroyed and his powers were failing, but he still managed to beat Kal-L, fatally injuring him. Kal-El tore the S-shield off Prime's chest, and managed to knock him out before collapsing. The Green Lanterns swoop down, destroying the kryptonite fragments and incarcerating Prime. Kal-L dies in Power Girl's arms, and a powerless Superman is taken back to Earth. Batman and Wonder Woman decide to take some time off. Superman is not discouraged, however, knowing that his powers will return in time, and in the meantime, the Earth is in good hands.
After living a normal human life as Clark Kent for a year, Superman's powers suddenly came back. When he returned to action as the Man of Steel, there was much public speculation as to whether or not he was an impostor. However, his daring actions, broadcast across the globe, while driving the Auctioneer from Earth, convinced the world that he was the real deal.
A young boy, seemingly from Krypton, landed in Metropolis in a ship. Although initially the government worked with Superman on studying him, they later moved the boy without informing the Man of Steel. Angered, Clark hijacked the truck transporting the child and took him. Lois and Clark decided to take the boy in as their son, and named him Christopher.
As Libra, the prophet of Darkseid, made his bid to take over the Secret Society of Super-Villains, Luthor said that the only way Libra could get his respect is to take Superman out of commission. Shortly afterwards, Clayface, disguised as Jimmy Olsen, bombs the Daily Planet, severely injuring and killing several staff members and leaving Lois in critical condition. After saving Lois and investigating the murders of various New Gods, Superman encountered Darkseid and "sang" the villain out of existence, though not before Batman is "killed" by the Omega Sanction.
The entire city of Kandor at a time resided near the Fortress of Solitude in the North Pole, populated by 100,000 Kryptonians. Although distracted by the recent death of his adoptive father, Jonathan Kent, Superman attempted to aid the Kryptonians in their assimilation with the rest of the Earth—something very few Kryptonians seemed interested in, including the city's leaders, Zor-El and Alura, Supergirl's parents. Kryptonian scientists then elected to grow a whole new planet Krypton for themselves. Superman accepted an offer to live with the Kryptonians in their transitional period and quickly was inducted into their Military Guild as a Commander, directly underneath General Zod.
While trying to help the Kryptonians get their society up and running Superman uncovered a cabal working to weaken Krypton on behalf of General Sam Lane and the new Superwoman, Lucy Lane. Thwarting the attempts don't end the threats against New Krypton however as soon Brainiac arrived, engaging in battle with General Zod who was seemingly losing it. Superman aids in stopping Brainiac but the world collector receiving aid from Lex Luthor pushes Zod into declaring war on Earth, an action he had planned from the very beginning. Though, unknown to Zod, Lex had planned for this with General Lane and the two men launched a warhead that destroyed New Krypton and using reverse engineered Kryptonian tech turned the sun red, depowering the Kryptonians as they fought in space and in the air, killing most of them. Thara-Ak-Kar gave her life as the Flamebird host to return the sun to its original state.
When Black Rings came to Earth beginning the prophesied Blackest Night, Superman contended with a resurrected Kal-L and Lois Lane from Earth-Two. The being called Nekron then arrived on Earth to claim responsibility for every resurrection that had ever passed on Earth, including Superman's after his death at the hands of Doomsday, and Kal-El was inducted into the Black Lantern Corps. Meanwhile, Hal Jordan finds the White entity of Life and used it to revive Superman as well as make him a member of the White Lantern Corps. With their combined power, the White Lanterns resurrected Black Hand, Nekron's link to the world of the living. Having lost his herald, Nekron was banished from the world of the living and the Blackest Night ends. The White Entity then disappeared and Superman was once again returned to normal.
Subject Interview
There was a gentle breeze, a gust of wind so peaceful it'd make anyone stop for a moment and just relish in the cool zephyr. Along with the breeze there was the rustling of tree limbs and leaves, accompanied by the soothing sound of flitting fabric. Time seemed to be frozen as the Earth was in its transition from night to day, everything was slow and calm. A moment of pure peace that, sadly, did not have the luxury of living as long as the man enjoying it. Kal-El's head hang low while his eyes rested, the moment caused for feeling, not seeing. The Kryptonian's breathing was slow and steady as he lingered away from his physical state and retreated into his own mind. Just how was it in the mind of the Earth's savior... A place of warmth? Tranquility? Beauty?
If only.
Within the vast confines of the mind of Superman was a sea of doubt. He felt uncertainty about almost everything he did. There was always a decision to be made, and with each decision came the opportunity to second guess himself. Constantly, at least when he wore the S-shield of Superman, he had to put on the charade of being all knowing and completely sure of himself. But there was a weight on Kal-El's shoulders. He had been gifted with amazing powers from birth and those powers meant he had a responsibility. That responsibility gave him a name in the public eye, and that name was one he was in everlasting struggle to live up too.
No one ever said it would be easy, but they also failed to mention the difficulty of it all. Clark knew he had to balance it all out within himself, this wasn't new territory to him after all, in order to keep the flow of things moving like a well oiled machine. There were people, communities, civilizations and nations, all counting on him. Of course there existed the chance and fear of letting them down. Superman was not a human, but even he was capable of making mistakes. People often forgot that and looked at him like a figure larger than life. Superman was still flesh and blood, he wasn't a messiah that others painted him as. Kal-El, Clark Kent, Superman, it didn't matter what it was you chose to call him, he was fallible. How would a person in his position's mistakes effect others? It was a thought that persisted in his mind. In the life of Superman there was no room for error, he had to be perfect. Completely perfect.
That was the weight that would time and time again find itself hanging over the shoulders of the Man of Tomorrow. He knew it wasn't true though, he didn't need to be perfect, he couldn't be. The entire point of the Justice League existing was to showcase that Superman was not able to do all things alone, just like anyone else he too needed help.
As the sun slowly began to rise higher and higher in the sky, so did Kal-El's face. His gentle blue eyes were soon revealed as his eyelids lifted. Mistakes were made, that was a fact. But for whatever mistake on his part that was made, Superman would work ten times as hard to rectify. He was not Superman because someone designed an S-shield and told him to go save the world. Kal-El, Clark Kent, was Superman because he had the power to be. Could he honestly live with himself if he sat idly by with his abilities and did nothing to protect this world he loved with all his heart? The answer to that was a resounding 'No'. He may have had his self-doubts, but every time he was faced with that feeling he looked up into the skies and thought of the meteor shower that marked his arrival. He was here for a reason. He had his powers for a reason. And as long as he had the will power and the determination instilled in him by Jonathan and Martha Kent, he was always going to be Superman just as much as he was Clark Kent. He had fears, he had doubts, he made mistakes. But it was having all of that, and never letting it break him, that made him...the Man of Steel.
