It had been a bit of time since Bane had taken over his homeland of Santa Prisca. While the people of the island sang his praises, there was still outside forces that were not happy with the change in leadership. Bane had nearly eradicated all of the corruption in his lands within days of taking office. Those who could not be encouraged to leave his island or change their ways were dealt with by other means. Bane was not afraid to get his hands dirty, and it was probably why his tactics had been so effective. It wasn't just some hired government goons going out and removing foreign investors who were pillaging his lands and using the resources without giving back, or growing drugs to exploit the people here or afar. No, instead Bane made it a personal goal of his to oversee all removal of the unwanted blights upon his nation. No longer would Santa Prisca be a slave to outsiders. From his rule forward, Santa Prisca would not be owned by outside powers.
All that did not mean Bane would turn away outside help however. Bane was a smart man and knew Santa Prisca would not last if it tried to become self-sustaining. The island already was not great for crops, and what few minerals it had had been nearly striped clean by outsiders for generations. What Santa Prisca did have was a surprisingly abundant coastline, large cliffsides for wind power, and a tough and determined people; people who had been walked on and used for so long, they were desperate to become their own people. This made them fiercely willing to do anything and everything they could to achieve the goals Bane was putting forth. He wasn't like the others who had taken control. Others had promised change, only to sow more corruption and discontent into the nation. Bane promised change, and then made sure the change happened. Personally.
Some of this change was coming in the form of getting educators over to the nation to help raise up the workforce. Currently Santa Prisca had a large population of uneducated peoples. While this would help in attracting foreign factories, Bane was hesitant with many of them, as he did not want to see his people used like cattle. His hope would be to get his people educated and eventually lead the low cost factory work to more highly skilled tech based jobs for his people. Tech paid more than factory work, it was simple economics given the parts built, and if he could get his people educated and into high-skill jobs, he could lift them higher than they ever were before.
All of this was why he had invited his old frienemy Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, to Santa Prisca. If there was someone Bane could trust to have the best interest of the people at heart, it was ironically one of the biggest businessmen in the world. While Bane knew of some of the branches of Waynetech, the large man had hoped Bruce could bring some of Wayne Industries to the island as a starting point for his people. Their initial talks had been a bright strained, for obvious reasons; Bane had broken his back, Bruce put him in a bit of a coma, the two had nearly been brothers....it was a strange relationship to say the least. While Bane hadn't fully turned over a new leaf, he was, in his mind, being a hero. At least to his people.
Given some discussions back and forth, Bane had managed to get Bruce to agree to visit. Bane hadn't been sure exactly when Bruce would be coming by and he wasn't about to stop doing work while he waited; he would be told of Mr Waynes approach and arrival as he neared.
As the day went on and the rain continued to fall, Bane could be found down by one of the fishing docks. Carrying copious amounts of logs, far more than any normal man could, Bane was currently assisting some construction workers and locals in building more fishing piers and homes in the area. When not doing his paperwork, or removing corruption, Bane would not let himself rest. His country needed repairs, and he was going to repair it himself if needed.
