When in doubt: ask!
If you're at all uncertain about whether or not a particular character is applicable, please ask the staff first. That potentially saves you time and energy spent on an application for a character you won't even be able to play.

New-52 and Rebirth Characters.
Characters that did not exist before ARFD's plot point (those that were created in the New 52 or Rebirth periods/universes) are generally applicable here on this board. They will just need to be adjusted to fit in the pre-Nu52 universe that ARFD exists in, and they cannot contradict, undermine or retcon any continuity on the forum that is considered canonical.

Captain Marvel/Shazam! Characters
Due to the Captain Marvel mythos having so many rebooted origins, and to best incorporate all disparate and new pieces, the ARFD Staff have formally retconned the New 52/Rebirth concept of Billy Batson, Mary Bromfield and Freddy Freeman existing in a foster family alongside Darla Dudley, Eugene Choi and Pedro Peña before their canonical New Earth adventures occurred. Fast-forward to our plot point and the group reunited during Billy, Mary and Freddy's search to return their powers, revealing that only as a family were they meant to restore them, each becoming a carrier of one sixth of the power of Shazam. At our plot point, Mary is 20, Freddy is 19, Billy is 18, Pedro is 18, Eugene is 17 and Darla is 16.

Select Characters.
"Select" characters are characters that are too powerful or select in their uses to be reasonably allowed for regular play on the board. Their agendas are too far-reaching, or it would be impossible for someone to maintain the monthly post minimum with them. Characters on the list below can be applied for, but they cannot be your first character. They also don't count as one of the ten slots on your roster, and must be requested via PM to the admin before you're cleared to register as them. One member may write a maximum of one Select character at a time.

Non-playable characters.
Though ARFD aims to allow the maximum amount of characters to be applied for, a precious few are not allowed.

Character Groups

This is a list of the different member groups on the forum with descriptions of what classifies each of them. Please read through this carefully and discern what group would suit the character you're applying for. If the staff disagree with your classification we will let you know during the application reviewing process.

Meta Hero

Meta Heroes are individuals with powers beyond the peak of human capability who fight usually in accordance to the law and for just, noble purpose.

Vigilante

Vigilantes are individuals without metahuman abilities who fight for noble, just causes, not always in accordance to the law.

Neutral

Neutrals are individuals with or without metahuman abilities who fight for themselves or their own personal concept of what is right, neither in direct patronage or opposition of the law.

Rogue

Rogues are individuals without metahuman abilities who fight for themselves or the forces of evil, usually in opposition of the law.

Meta Villain

Meta villains are individuals with powers beyond the peak of human capability who fight for themselves or the forces of evil, usually in opposition of the law.

Civilian

Civilians are individuals with no metahuman abilities or costumed identities; normal people trying to exist in the world of the DC Universe.

Select

Selects are characters deemed too precise in their applications, powerful or monumental for average everyday play. They can be found on the list in the first portion of this post.
