Participants: Mera Curry and Arthur Curry
Location(s): Curry Lighthouse, Amnesty Bay, Maine
Time of Day: Morning
Summary: The Curry's begin to find a new normal...
Mera had actually never been to the Curry Lighthouse. Strange, given that it was her husband's childhood house, and a property that he had quietly held ownership of even after the passing of his adopted father. Up until that point, however, Mera had never been privy or involved in Arthur's life above the waves. Theirs was a very complicated history to begin with, but in every stretch of time where they were together, it had been in Poseidonis or, later, Atlantis.
Whenever, even during those instances, Arthur had something to do on land (related to his mantel as Aquaman, more often than not) Mera was left to manage things, or entertain herself at the bottom of the sea. And, truthfully, that had been just fine with the Queen. She could not have cared less what happened on the surface. Anything more than indifference that Mera held toward the air-breathers was enmity.
That had changed, though. Among so many other things. Now the former King and Queen of Atlantis were making a brave attempt at a new life... together. That last word is what Mera focused on the most. And she had been surprisingly optimistic over the whole ordeal, too. From the Palace of Atlantis to a cozy lighthouse and a life on the shore was a large downgrade. The old Mera would have been tart at the change.
The new Mera loved it. To wake up with, at the best, Arthur beside her or, at the least, the indent on the mattress that told of where he'd spent the night - next to her. To walk downstairs, passing pictures of Arthur and his father on the walls. Mera had met her husband when he was already the established King so many knew him to be. Their entire marriage had been spent under the watch of the people, in refined, auspicious settings.
Here, without the titles and the responsibilities it was... So much more intimate. Mera was enjoying it immensely. Even if there were times when she simply didn't know what to do with herself. Like that morning. Arthur spent his days as Aquaman, defending the seas as he always had, and always would. Mera... Well, she was actually giving a try at homemaking. Something that amused Arthur to no end.
Mera tucked her tongue in one cheek and eyed the living room where she stood. She'd exchanged her full-body, emerald scale armor and diadem, Mera wore a pair of overalls that had once belonged to Arthur's father over a tattered tank-top. This morning, she had decided to rearrange the furniture. Mera eyed the chaos she'd created, trying to remember where she was going with it.
The news was on in the background, and Mera's attention was grabbed by it when her husband appeared on the reel. He was rescuing a beached whale several hundred miles down the coast. Mera quirked one eyebrow and smiled crookedly. Then she picked up the couch with one hand and got back to her work. Saving the world one living area at a time.
