Subject Attributes
Meta-Human Abilities: Like other speedsters, Bart has a connection to the Speed Force and is often considered a Speed Force Conduit. This connection grants him several abilities, such as:
- Accelerated Healing: Bart heals faster than a normal human.
- Enhanced Senses: Thanks to the Speed Force, Bart's senses are able to keep up with his speed, perceiving his surroundings as fast as he runs and allowing him to react just as fast.
- Phasing: Bart's able to vibrate his molecules at a rate so fast that it allows him to phase through solid objects such as walls, though this can only be done in short bursts.
- Speed Force Aura: The Speed Force protects him, and anyone he's carrying, from the affects of whatever speed he's running at through an aura that it manifests around him. This also makes him more durable and harder to injure than a normal human, protecting him from kinetic impacts.
- Superhuman Stamina: Because of the Speed Force, Bart's stamina is boosted beyond human limits, though it's not unlimited. Eventually he runs out of energy and needs to rest.
- Superhuman Speed: The main ability of any speedster, Bart's able to run an inhuman speeds, and not just when he's running. This also comes with superhuman agility and superhuman reflexes.
- Vortex Creations: Bart can create vortices of air a couple of different ways. He can run in a circle or rotate his arms. Both actions have to be done at a high speed in order to funnel the wind into a vortex.
- Enhanced Mental Process: Bart's able to take in and process information mentally faster than normal humans. However unlike other speedsters, who eventually can forget the information they've taken in, Bart's natural photographic memory (mentioned below) allows him to remember.
- Electrokinesis: Bart's able direct the Speed Force Lightning and the natural electrical energy granted to him by the Speed Force. He can charge up a lightning bolt to throw or simply charge his hand with electricity and direct it straight into another person, such as when he used it to restart Jay Garrick's heart.
- Speed Scouts: Bart's able to create avatars of himself made out of energy, referred to as "scouts." He's able to send these scouts through the time stream. When they return, he's able to absorb their memories as his own.
- Speed Force Empathy: Because of their connection to the Speed Force, Bart is able to sense when another speedster is in trouble and will find himself drawn to that speedster's location.
Standard Abilities: Bart is unique from other speedsters in the fact that he has a photographic memory. He can remember everything he's heard, read, or seen. He can also learn languages easily because of this, though he is currently only fluent in English and Interlac. He's also skilled in basic hand-to-hand combat and has some knowledge on criminology, having taken classes when he was the Flash.
Paraphernalia: A costume ring similar to the Flash's, which contains his Kid Flash costume.
Subject Weaknesses: Though he can heal fast, Bart isn't bullet-proof or any weapon-proof. His fast metabolism also requires him to consume a lot of food in order to keep up his energy. He can also have a bad habit of moving before thinking first, being impulsive. This tends to not go over well in fights.
Subject History
Bart was born in the thirtieth Century to Don Allen, one of the Tornado Twins, and Meloni Thawne, making him the half-brother of Owen Mercer, and heir to a long line of both heroes, such as the Flash, and villains, such as Professor Zoom. Shortly after his birth, though, Zoom attacked. His family was forced to flee to Earth-247, where they were inevitably trapped with no way to return home to their Earth.
Somehow Bart's connection to the Speed Force caused him to age at an accelerated rate. At the age of two, he was physically twelve years old. Around that time was when President Thawne had Bart's father, Don, and aunt, Dawn, killed by the Dominators, who later abducted Bart. He only got away from the Dominators by being captured by Earthgov.
After that, he was basically raised by Earthgov, except they raised him in a virtual reality environment, hoping to cause him to age mentally as fast as he did physically. It worked except a problem soon arose. He would soon die from old age. Because Earthgov wasn't doing anything to help with that, Iris West took him with her back to the twentieth century. She introduced him to Wally West, the Flash at the time, in hopes that he could teach Bart to control his speed and his connection to the Speed Force.
Wally ended up being great help to Bart and vice versa. During his time with Wally, he was inspired to take on the alias Impulse. However he later moved with Max Mercury to live in Manchester, Alabama. He went to school and tried to have some semblance of a "normal" life all the while continuing his training with Max. It was during this time that he helped fond Young Justice with Tim Drake and Conner Kent.
However his time with Max couldn't last forever. When Max disappeared, Jay and Joan Garrick took Bart into their household. He lived with them and continued to be a part of Young Justice until the team inevitably broke apart.
He didn't stay off a team for long, though, eventually joining the a new iteration of the Teen Titans. He originally joined the team as Impulse but when he was shot in the kneecap by Deathstroke (technically possessed by his son, Jericho), he took a break from being Impulse while he recovered. He knee was eventually replaced with an artificial one. However after he recovered, he didn't return to being Impulse. Instead he adopted the alias Kid Flash.
His speed turned out to be barely affected, if at all, by his new artificial knee. He could still run almost at light speed. This was evident when he helped Wally and Jay run Superboy-Prime into the Speed Force. However Jay was unable to enter the Speed Force and Wally seemed to be turned into energy, vanishing and leaving Bart to deal with Superboy-Prime alone - or so he'd thought. Barry Allen, Johnny Quick, and Max Mercury showed up in the Speed Force and helped Bart defeat Superboy-Prime. Afterwards, Bart was informed by Barry that Wally was waiting for him. Then Jay said that the Speed Force was gone.
A speedster decked out in Barry Allen's Flash costume appeared in Tokyo, warning that Superboy-Prime would return. When Superboy-Prime did, in fact, return, he revealed that the speedster was Bart. Somehow after spending time in an unknown dimension, Bart had aged four years and returned as the new Flash, claiming that Barry's costume was the only thing that could survive his trip back to his home.
When Superboy-Prime killed Conner, Bart attacked him, pummeling him and eventually forcing him to retreat. After the battle was over, he gave Barry's ring, and thus the costume, to Jay, claiming he was now the Fastest Man Alive. Conner's death had hit him hard. It was roughly a whole year before he would dawn a costume and superhero identity again.
Because the Speed Force was, indeed, gone yet he was still connected to it, that very connection held the potential to kill him. He was eventually given a modified version of his grandfather's suit to help him control his connection to the now gone Speed Force. He eventually gave in and became the fourth Flash, following in his grandfather and Wally's footsteps.
However, feeling the need for a fresh start, Bart moved to Los Angeles and got a job at the forensics lab in the local police department. Then Inertia showed up. Inertia hired the Rogues in order to help him build a device. The device was meant to transfer the Speed Force from Bart into Inertia. Though Iris warned him not to, Bart left to face Inertia and the Rogues. The device removed his power but in doing so, it turned into a bomb. While Valerie Perez worked on deactivating the bomb, Bart sacrificed himself to give her the time she needed. The bomb was successfully deactivated, but by then, Bart had been killed by the Rogues.
At his funeral, Jay Garrick revealed Bart's identity to the world. A video was then played. It was filmed by Bart, when he'd first become Kid Flash, in case he died.
Then Legionnaires, XS, Garth Ranzz and Ayla Ranzz brought Bart back to life by using a charged lightning rod. Bart, however, returned as a teenager rather than the adult age he'd been when he'd died. His Kid Flash costume ring was returned to him by Brainiac 5 and he then returned to his time.
When Nekron showed up, Bart joined Wally in a race around the world to warn every hero of the incoming invasion by the Black Lantern Corps. Because he had previously been deceased, a Black Lantern ring was able to latch itself onto Bart and take control of him, transforming him into a Black Lantern. He fought against his grandfather when Barry was made a Blue Lantern. However when he tried to use his Speed Force against Wally, it temporarily returned him to normal, allowing Barry to realize their connection to the Speed Force was the key to freeing Bart. Barry then used his powers to successfully free Bart from the Black Lantern ring.
After the Black Lantern Corps was dealt with, Bart, along with Conner, was eventually recruited by Cyborg to rescue Static. The three of them faces the supervillain Holocaust in order to save Static. Afterwards, Bart and Conner agreed together that it was time for them to return to their superhero alter-egos. He then officially rejoined the Teen Titans.
Subject Interview
Bart wasn’t one to usually visit Gotham. Robin usually was gloomy whenever he’d come to visit and Batman wasn’t always pleased to see him – ever. So why was he in the dark, Goth-like city? Heh, Goth, Gotham. He shook his head, focusing back on reality as he ran past the city’s border. He would say hi to Robin, talk and catch up was what he was mainly planning on. After all, Conner was back and he wasn’t sure if Tim knew. And besides, he had caught up with Mia and now it was the Boy Wonder’s turn. Hopefully his friend wasn’t in a mini-Batman mood.
He came to a fast halt at the sight of an all-too-family yellow streak. He felt a lump form in his throat. Zoom was someone that Flash usually took on, and he would take on Inertia. Thad had his own problems and in the Teen Titan’s mind was a complete sociopath, Zoom was the one who trained him. The man usually wasn’t one that he would go up against, at least not without his mentor. Perhaps he could leave it to Batman? Or Nightwing? The last time he had faced off against one of Flash’s rogues by himself, an innocent child had ended up dead.
But that was the thing. Zoom was Flash’s “problem.” He wasn’t one of Gotham’s villains that the Bats commonly fought. While he had no doubt in his mind that Batman kicked ass, Zoom was best taken by a speedster. Flash may not have been around, but he was. He swallowed the lump in his throat. He had to do something before innocent people got hurt. His eyes widened behind his goggles at the sound of a shout. He was too late. His expression hardened before he took off, lightning trailing behind him. He tried to muster as much courage as he had. Taking on Inertia was one thing – Zoom was on an entirely different level.
The world around him went by slowly. He took less than a mili-second to see what was coming up. A man on his knees, injured by the looks of it, and Zoom. He forced himself not to hesitate as he ran right past the man, pulling a clenched fist back and striking out as he came in front of Zoom. He wasn’t aiming anywhere specific. He simply wanted to catch him off guard. And he moved quickly. He didn’t even stop to think if his blow hit before he was a good distance behind Zoom. He had to play it safe. This wasn’t like going against the other rogues, where he could usually flit out of danger. Zoom was faster than him. He could kill him.
He paused for a short time, eyes falling onto the dead bodies. Damn it! He pulled his gaze away, forcing himself to focus. He couldn’t risk being impulsive. Damn it, where was Wally?! This was one of the few villains that he never got cocky around. He couldn’t afford to and besides, if he got prideful, Zoom would surely knock his pride down to zero.
“Run!” he yelled to the man right as he took off running. The civilian’s safety came before his own. He wasn’t going to let anyone else die on his watch.
He zipped up the wall and pushed off from it and into the air, coming down and pulling his arm back. As he came closer to Zoom and the ground, he struck out, aiming a firm punch at the villain. There was no way he could fight him from afar. He needed to get up close and dangerous. He needed to fight like his life depended on it. After all, it most likely did.
