Subject Attributes
Meta-Human Abilities:
Homo Magi Possession: Despite being born a human, June Moone's person was merged with an ancient entity known as 'The Enchantress', a dark and immortal succubus from the Nightshade Dimension. Their union allows June access to the vast and near-limitless magical power of the Enchantress, though only should she speak the demon's name and allow her control of her person. Over the years, the Enchantress' power over June has waxed and waned: at times, the succubus has been able to influence Moone's actions, even when unsummoned, vying for control of her mind. However, there have too been cases where June has shown herself to control the Enchantress, her will to do good stronger than darkness that resides within her. Currently, it is June who maintains control of the pair, though the Enchantress' voice is audible once more - despite having lain dormant for some time, thought to have been separated from Moone by the 'Soulsinger.'
Magic, Hexes and Curses: When accessing the power of the Enchantress, June is capable of a near-limitless number of mystic feats. Indeed, over the years she has shown herself able to summon, mould and direct raw eldritch energy; create life-like illusions; vanish and reappear across the globe; flight; cast and shape hexes and curses; bio-fission; telepathy and telekinesis; practise limited necromancy; and to some extent, warp reality.
Magical Sensitivity: One of the more unique aspects of June's powers whilst harbouring the Enchantress is her innate sensitivity to magic. Indeed, she has the uncanny ability to 'sense' magic in her vicinity, and with focus, further afield. She has shown herself capable of linking her essence to other magical beings, able to commune across vast distances. With some effort, she has even shown herself capable of remotely-accessing and untilising another homo magi's gifts - a talent that is incredibly draining, both mentally and physically.
Magical Attunement: Though usually needing to 'awaken' the Enchantress in order to access magic, June has started to show some attunement to mystic arts herself, and can cast some simple spells without needing to call upon the succubus.
Standard Abilities:
Graphic Designer: June studied graphic design at university and, before being possessed by the Enchantress, worked as a freelance artist.
Occultist and Parapsychologist: Since being merged with the Enchantress, June has taken a great interest in the occult and become quite the occult researcher. For a long while, she taught a course in parapsychology - the study of paranormal and psychic phenomena, including telepathy, precognition, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, near-death experiences, synchronicity, reincarnation and apparitional experiences.
Paraphernalia:
Herne-Ramsgate Cauldron: June is currently in possession of the Herne-Ramsgate Cauldron, previously owned by Nightwitch, which allows her to learn the location of near any magical being in the universe. It takes a long time to scry for the information, and it is not always exact.
Subject Weaknesses:
Mortal: Though the Enchantress appears to be an immortal being, June is most certainly not. Despite the vast power the demonic-entity imbues, June is only protected by her when utilising the her power, following speaking the word 'Enchantress.' In her usual form, June is a mortal, and thus suffers all the ills and flaws that entails.
Duality: June Moone is a good individual desperate to see the world become a better place. The Enchantress is a twisted, self-serving creature of darkness. Sharing the same host, their thoughts and actions are often at war with one another. Though June currently maintains control of the Enchantress' persona following her apparent 'exorcism' - the work of the Soulsinger - the succubus simply lay dormant, and has recently risen again, trying once again to influence her human double, gathering strength enough to take control when the word 'Enchantress' is spoken.
Fear: June fears the darkness of the Enchantress. Her previous actions under the entity's thrall haunt her, and she is terrified of the control the demon can exert - even following that persona's apparent banishment. As such, June tends to avoid using her connection to magic unless absolutely necessary, just incase the Enchantress should take hold of her mortal host.
Separation: Should June be separated from the Enchantress, she would lose the arsenal of eldritch power she has access to - and without a host, The Enchantress loses her ability to exist amongst mortals. They need one another, though neither likes to admit it
Subject History
June Moone was raised by a relatively normal family and lived a relatively normal life, working as a freelance artist and graphic designer. That all changed when her first serious boyfriend, an importer of antiques named Alan Dell, invited June to a costume party at the supposedly haunted 'Terror Castle.' Despite its foreboding title, June attended the gathering and it was there that her relatively normal life was to be forever changed.
During the party, June stumbled across a hidden chamber, falling through a section of the castle's floor. Unable to free herself, she found herself confronted by a magical being who, though intially unnamed, later revealed himself to be Dzamor. A ruler of the Nightshade Dimension, Dzamor's leadership was opposed by two beings, 'The Incubus' and 'the Succubus.' In an attempt to foil their plan to overthrow him and instate their dark father, Azhmodeus, as king in the Nightshade realms, Dzamor had captured The Succubus, and upon meeting with June at Terror Castle, fused her and the captured demon – binding them together.
In doing so, he hoped June's good heart would be able to tame the darkness in the Succubus, and in return, their fusing would grant the mortal the power of the demon. The binding served to remove a direct threat to his rule, while also creating a champion of good. Said champion was named 'Enchantress' – a direct reference to the entity trapped within the young woman, a name often linked to the succubus.
However, Dzamor did not explain to June the origin of her powers, simply stating that he was bestowing her with an affinity for magic. He set June the task of ridding Terror Castle of an evil presence – a minotaur-like creature that emerged from an ancient tapestry. Speaking the word 'Enchantress', the young graphic designer transformed from a blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman into a raven-haired, green-eyed sorceress – accessing the Succubus' strength and connection to magic – using it to defeat the minotaur.
Believing herself something of a heroine, wanting to use her gifts for good, June went on to battle a range of supernatural beings – underground monsters, gangsters working alongside demons and thieves of magical artifacts. However, June's relationship with Dell fell apart. He became more and more attracted to the 'Enchantress', not realizing she and June were almost one and the same. Thus, they parted ways.
Unbeknownst to June, the power she had become accustomed to stemmed from the succubus Dzamor had bound to her. Over time, the Succubus gained strength, and every time June transformed into the Enchantress, the demon's personality and will began to encroach on the artist's – the champion of good quickly fell from grace, the Succubus underestimated by her captor. The Enchantress became a persona of her own.
Over time, June's interest in the occult grew, and she moved to New Athens, Santa Augusta, and took a job teaching Parapsychology. There, she fully discovered the effects her powers were having on her: the demonic entity within her took control of their shared being on a number of occasions, driving June to villainous acts in an attempt to gain omnipotence during a rare astral alignment. She was foiled by Supergirl – the alter-ego of Linda Danvers, a co-worker – and swore revenge.
From that moment on, it was the Succubus who guided June's actions when utilising her powers, whispering to her and influencing her decisions when not. She was certainly no longer a force of good, joining forces with the Forgotten Villains – with whom she fought a number of heroes during the collapse of the multiverse and the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
With the universe reformed, June was recruited to join the Suicide Squad, a voluntary member who hoped working alongside Waller could help contain her the villainous double that influenced her thoughts and took control of her being whenever she utilised her powers. She worked alongside them for a long while – helping in the defeat of Brimstone, the attempted assassination of Captain Boomerang, and the disarmament of nuclear weapons. However, the villainous 'Enchantress' persona also led June to betray the team on a number of occasions.
During her time working with the Squad, June was diagnosed with what many believed was schizophrenia – still hearing the voices of the Succubus trapped within her, becoming an entirely different person when using her powers. Moone was unsure of why she was unable to control herself when acting as 'The Enchantress', and desperate for further help, was taken to visit Madame Xanadu. The blind seer believed June's schizophrenic relationship with her alter ego was the work of utilising magic before she was ready – eldritch forces having damaged her 'natural aura'. It was believed that, with time, June would better be able to control herself, and thus Xanadu gifted her a necklace and ring which would bind the Enchantress – allowing June time to recover.
Xanadu was wrong.
Months later, while joined by the heroine known as Nightshade, June finally discovered that the Enchantress part of her soul - the dark persona she adopted when trying to save others - actually stemmed from the captive Succubus of Nightshade's home realm. She learned of Dzamor's binding, though was no closer in understanding how to control the demonic-entity residing within her.
It drove her apparently insane, and she was committed to the Ostrander Mental Institute in New Jersey. However, after years in captivity, a war in hell drew June back into working as the Enchantress, and with some coercion from Deadman, battled the demons that threatened to overrun Earth. The war was ended when Faust murdered the 'Enchantress' aspect of June's soul – a purely evil act that was said to reignite the fires in the underworld.
It left Moone in a semi-catatonic state. She was taken to 'Elysium Fields Sanitarium' outside Detroit, though was freed by Faust sometime later. He reunited her with her Enchantress persona – who had apparently survived death in the pits of hell, and had been masquerading as Anita Souleeta, a succubus who was desperately trying to resurrect Hermes Trismegestus. Their reunion caused them to form an entity known as the 'Soulsinger' – though the powerful being was quick to fade, leaving June with the powers of the Enchantress, but apparently silencing the Succubus.
For the first time in many years, June was in total control of her own person – even when speaking the word 'Enchantress.'
Finding her place as a true heroine, June joined Shadowpact. Working alongside some of the world's greatest mystics, she helped battle both the Spectre and Eclipso, invaluable in both conflicts. However, she never truly forgot the darkness that had once resided within her, and offered her ally, Ragman, a mystical pistol designed to kill her should the demon she'd once harboured ever return and twist her thoughts again. Ragman refused.
Since then, Shadowpact has dissolved – following the foiling of Doctor Gotham's resurrection. Much to June's dismay, she has begun to hear the tell-tale whispers of the Succubus once again, a familiar feeling of darkness encroaching on her Enchantress persona. However, for the time being, she retains a strong enough will to resist the lure of the demon.
If not, her new allies within the Justice League Dark are the only people on the planet who might be able to help her.
Subject Interview
The candles in the hallway flickered, their light fast waning. Long shadows cast by their dying glow distorted and merged, twisting and morphing as she passed along the narrow walkway. Wooden floorboards creaked underfoot, as if the house itself were groaning in pain. The air was chill, yet somehow close – a suffocating cold that caused her breath to escape her body as pale and formless phantoms. There was once a time that such surroundings might have inspired a paralysing fear in June Moone, but that time was long past. She had been forcibly imbued with true darkness – and this simply could not compare.
She paused toward the end of the corridor, tilting her head slightly, dyed red hair falling over one shoulder. Then, she waited – allowing the ambient tendrils of magic that ran through the house to tug at her, appealing to the entity that lay trapped within her, guiding her steps. She swayed on the spot for a moment, before continuing on, taking a stairwell to the left, ascending toward the attic, rather than continuing forward to the bedrooms.
With each step she took toward the room located at the top of the house, the stronger the pull she felt in her gut. With each step, the mould and mildew scented air tasted more like brimstone, and all she could hear was an incessant scratching, like the scurrying of rats against wood – hallmarks of dark magic, foreboding sorcery meant to keep those that wished to pry into the strange happenings in the manor at bay.
It was a good effort, but it was not enough. June, and the others that operated under the 'Dark' branch of the Justice League, would not be perturbed by warding hexes and curses.
Finally, June reached a large, oak door. Painted white, it had been splashed with clumsy sigils – eldritch warnings that acted as a barrier, a way of sealing off the space beyond. Those that tried to open the door would experience rather unpleasant consequences, and a worst, a painful end. However, the power within the symbols was not enough to rival hers – or rather, that of the Enchantress.
Taking a deep breath to steady herself, more nervous uttering one word than traversing a cursed residence, June spoke little louder than a breathy whisper, as if telling someone an intimate secret.
“Enchantress...”
About her form, a dark miasma extended, a thick fog that quickly filled the landing and stairwell. For a few moments, the area was totally obscured by a rolling mist, before, almost as quickly as it had formed, the aura faded.
Clad in emerald robes, the Enchantress occupied the space formerly June's. Though similar in some ways, the sorcererss' hair was darker, her skin paler, and Moone's kind eyes were replaced with those of a malevolant predator. Cat-like and glowing, exuding a jade glow, they served as a reminder that June's body was not just her own, that she also bore host to a succubus of the Nightshade realm – the Enchantress.
However, the glow was quick to fade, the young graphic designer surpressing the dark urges of the succubus, enforcing her will upon their bound entities and taking control of the vast power the Enchantress commanded. Extending her hand, the witch made a sweeping motion, and the sigils ahead of her vanished – catching fire and burning with viridescent flames.
Then, stepping forward, her cloak sweeping the floor behind her, Enchantress entered the attic, ready to confront whatever darkness lay beyond.
