Participants: Ryan Choi, Jessica CruzOpen/Closed: Closed Location(s): The JL Watchtower Time of Day: Is there time in space? Weather: Is there weather in a space station? Summary: Two of the JL's youngest members square off in some training. ~~~ "I wont be long Mr Saeed. I do have prior commitments to the League and will have to find different ways to split my time between them and the Science Police. And yes, before you say anything, I do understand how it looks to the team that their leader is gone off with another group, but I do think they can understand; this is the Justice League after all. -- Yes, of course Mr Saeed. Listen, to make it up to them all, send me the files on the Solmark case. I'll go over it all while I am up here, and give the team the weekend off. -- You as well Mr Saeed. Oh, and before you go Samir, do tell your wife I really appreciated the baklava. -- Hah, actually there's still a bit left, I brought it with me to the Watchtower, I plan on sharing it with whomever I run into up here. -- Have a great weekend Samir." While Ryan was head of the Metropolis Science Police, he was a committed member of the Justice League as well. He had just finished a conversation with his head of HR, Mr Samir Saeed, assuring him that he was still with the team and acknowledging how it looked to run off with another team during his new organizations early days. But, in reality, this was the Justice League he was making time for. Doctor Ryan Choi was sure the MSP would understand. Within minutes of finishing his conversation, and devouring another baklava treat, Ryan received the files he had requested. The Solmark case had been a small one, but one that was giving his people a bit of a headache. Somehow, a singular person, going by the name Solmark, had gotten their hands onto a fair bit of alien tech, and the MSP was looking into how. The young scientists eyes scanned the numerous files in front of him and checked the file sizes. Even with the Watchtowers speeds, the files would take at least half an hour to download, probably longer, especially given how the Watchtowers security systems would want to look and make sure the files were safe. Pondering how to spend his time, Ryan shrunk down into the communications system in his room. Making some minor adjustments, Ryan reemerged and tapped the communicator. Now giving it an option to relay just to every occupied bunk on the Tower, as opposed to only one at a time, Ryan spoke up. "Hey, not sure who's on board right now, but this is Doctor Ryan Choi, the Atom. I'm waiting for some work to come through so if anyone is up for it, I'd like to get some training in. Maybe a one on one spar?...Uh...I've got baklava to share, it's really good. Mrs Saeed is an amazing baker...I'll be down on Deck C's training room in a couple of minutes if anyone is free"Grabbing the baklava treats, Ryan shrunk and sat down on his Bang Stick and flew off to the training room. If no one showed up, then he'd just use one of the many built in programs the Tower provided.

She’d been to the Watchtower only a handful of times now. She still found herself getting lost a lot—really, if they could afford a whole satellite, would it have killed them to spring for a few more signs? It was one of the reasons she still felt so out of place, like she was an intruder or tourist or something equally unbelonging.
An example being how she was currently in what she assumed was a training room, when she was actually looking for the cafeteria. Her stomach rolled uneasily. I should just go home. She was pretty sure she could remember the way back. A left, two rights, and an elevator ride to the third floor, right? No, no, I came here. I need to stick it through. What would Sara think when she came back early? But, also, what would any Leaguers think when they catch her wandering around like a lost kid?
I’ll just… stick it out here. That could work. Yep, can do. She sat down in the middle of the training mat, crossed her legs, and stared out through the window at the vast expanse and space and tried not to think about the windows suddenly shattering and her getting sucked out into the nothingness. It was a stupid worry anyway as she was literally a space cop.
She took a steadying breath and focused on her ring, creating a construct of a cat chasing a ball toy.
//not much but hope it works! o: lemme know if you need more, tho. <3

Most of the times Ryan had managed to visit the Tower in space, which was still an incredible experience every time, it had been pretty bare. A lot of his fellow members had their own things to do. The Earth had also been pretty luck lately in not having a major issue that required the entire League to intervene. Ryan was sure that if there had been any big event that the League would have been more active in the Watchtower.
Ryan adjusted his glasses as he walked, wandering the halls to his destination. As he walked down the hall and approached the training hall, he didn't see anyone outside and waiting. Either no one had been around to hear his offer, or maybe people were on their way. Again though, if no one showed up, he could find a training program built into the system.
Approaching the door, Ryan looked to the monitor outside of the room and noticed it was already an occupied room. Wondering who was there, and if they had arrived before him, Ryan pushed open the door and lets out a quick "Hello?" Scanning the room, Ryan noticed the green and black suit of a fellow Leaguer, denoting the person to be a Green Lantern. Given the long black hair, it must have been the newest Green Lantern. While Ryan wasn't sure of their name, he had seen her on the news and heard of her. "Did you come here in response to my training request?" Ryan questioned. Pausing for a moment, he quickly bowed and held the treats above his head. "Oh, apologies. My name is Dr. Ryan Choi, the Atom. I don't think we've actually met, a pleasure to meet you Miss Lantern"

She startled at the sound of a new voice, construct disappearing as she shot to her feet. She recognized the Atom immediately and her embarrassment spiked. She also realized she looked like a deer in headlights, eyes briefly darting around the room for in search of exit. Stupid. This was the Atom, a superhero. She was perfectly safe. Right? Right.
She forced her face to resemble something a bit more friendly, open, and less oh-my-god-please-don’t-kill-me.
“Hi!” Ok, pitch a little too high there, but that could be worked on. She blinked at the mention of a training request. “… Yes.” Because, y’know what, that sounded better than “I got lost looking for the cafeteria and decided to just hangout in this empty training room for an indefinite amount of time.”
“Oh, uh, nice to meet you, Dr. Choi” she said after he introduced himself. She hesitated only slightly, before holding her hand out for a shake. “I’m Jessica… Cruz. Jessica Cruz.” She wanted to stomp on her own foot as she stumbled. She eyed the food he was carrying and decided that was good enough icebreaker. “What’s that?” One of these days, she hoped she’d stop embarrassing herself in front of professional superheroes.

There had been a momentary pause in her words. While Ryan wasn't great with social queues, Ryan was able to pick on bodily and verbal subtleties fairly well. There was a good chance she had not come here to train. Perhaps she was just looking for a quiet place or some solo training. Perhaps Ryan was intruding, though he was unsure if questioning that was proper or not.
Ryan stood from his bow as the Green Lantern greeted him, a thinking look upon his face. "Oh, sorry. Doctor isn't needed. Just....uh, just used to introducing myself that way. Former professor at Ivy University's Physics department and now running the Science Police, kind of makes it a very common lead in. Please, just call me Ryan. Or The Atom. That works too. Either or, really. Or whatever is best for you. I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to tell you what to do" The young scientist rambled slightly before the others follow up question rang in his ears. Ryan paused in his rambling to look at the treats he carried with him.
Ryan quickly opened the container, allowing the sweet scent of cinnamon, honey, and walnuts to fill the air. "Oh, it's baklava. One of my employees' wife made some for the Science Police. Mrs Saeed is an incredible baker. Uh, it's....what was in it again?, oh, uh, it's a pastry filled with walnuts and cinnamon, dipped in honey" Holding out the container, Ryan tilted it towards her, showing the many layers of the sweet treat it held. "Take as many as you want. Mrs. Saeed would be very upset with me if I did not share them with some of my fellow Leaguers"

The Atom—Ryan—was… rambling. Normally a frequent sufferer of secondhand embarrassment, Jessica actually found herself… relaxing just a bit. It was comforting, sort of, the realization that even a professional superhero could be awkward. She listened patiently as he rambled about his title and then the baklava in his hands. Jessica eyed the sweet looking treat as he offered it to her. Her stomach grumbled quietly and she realized she hadn’t had dinner yet. So, it didn’t take much convincing of herself for her to reach out and grab one piece. “Oh. Thanks.” She bit into it thoughtfully, before making a small, pleased sound. “It’s good! Give Mrs. Saeed my compliments.”
She continued eating the treat, but now eyed Ryan thoughtfully. Ok, so, he was a Leaguer. And she was a Leaguer. Sort of. More of a backup. Anyway, that meant in some crazy way they were like coworkers. Which meant they were sort of equal. Besides, she was a Green Lantern. Specially chosen to defend the galaxy against evil and… other evil things.
The internal pep talk gave her just enough courage for her next inquiry: “So you wanted to train?” She’d never “fought” a superhero before. She supposed she’d just have to add it to the terrifyingly long list of firsts she was experiencing lately.

"There's plenty, so take as much as you want" Ryan commented as the Green Lantern took out a treat. He placed the treats down as she asked for her compliments to be given to Mrs Saeed and he responded with a firm nod. "She'll be delighted that a bonafide Green Lantern liked her snacks. Our Science Police Headquarters in Metropolis always smells of fresh baked goods, she always gets her husband to bring in so many treats" With a little laugh, Ryan made sure the treats were in a secure place, somewhere that they wouldn't fall out of their container. He still had lots to share and would need to find more people to share with.
Ryan unhooked his Bangstick from his belt when the other spoke up and turned to face her. "Well, this is a training room, so it would be unsuited to be used as a dining room" he suggested with a little smirk. "I've never worked with a Green Lantern before. There was one, Kyle I think was his name? He took my spot on a team at one point. I didn't get to work with him though. I'm very interested in seeing how the Ring works!" Thinking back to working with Donna Troy and Jason Todd, Ryan honestly wished he had gotten more of a chance to work with the two. Sure Jason was a bit of a tool and a bully, but it was an interesting dynamic the group had going.
While the scientist wasn't sure on how a training session really should begin, he shrunk down to the size of small enough to begin bouncing around on atoms. While he wasn't the fastest hero, his weight shifting allowed him to jump around in a quick manner. His voice, in turn, also began to seemingly come from multiple different areas of the room as he spoke. "Tell me, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, I've seen the Ring in use on the news. Baseball bats, fighter jets, giant shields..." the voice would be hard to pin down, as Ryan continued to shuffle himself around the room. "...Do you use yours offensively or..." as Ryan's words continued, the voice would start to have a more localized area. Ryan began to grow with a fist drawn back. "...defensively?" the voice was now right by the Lantern as a fist came out. Ryan really[/b] didn't want to just sucker punch the other, so he had hoped to give her enough time to react. Again, he was not sure how a training session should begin, so it only made sense to just jump right into it. Or at least, so he thought.

She blinked in surprise as Ryan suddenly disappeared. Oh! He probably just shrunk. That was his whole schtick, after all. She narrowed her eyes, trying to see if she could see him, but gave up on that tactic fairly quickly. Jessica had never been a child genius or anything, but she’d done pretty well in school, including science. So, she knew if Ryan was, say, the size of an atom, he couldn’t be seen by the naked eye.
Then his voice seemed to be coming from multiple directions and she turned and pivoted several times in an attempt to track it. Oh boy. What the hell had she been thinking, anyway? Sparring with a professional superhero? It was a one-way ticket for getting her ass kicked. She still really had no idea what she was doing. Sure, she’d been at this thing for some months now and had gotten some basic training on Oa and even fought some bad guys, but she was still very much a rookie.
“Uh” was her response to Ryan’s question, not having time to actually think of an answer as his fist was suddenly flying toward her face. Her eyes widened and she let out a squeak of surprise, but was instantly manifesting a shield to deflect the blow.
She needed to get out of her own head. She knew this. Her own brain was her biggest hurdle in life and in superhero-ing. She was getting better at jumping over it each day, though she still sometimes tripped and fell flat on her face. She took in a breath, focused on her next move instead of the bundle of nerves in her gut, and the shield burst into a force of energy to attempt to push Ryan back and across the room before firing several small blasts at him—not strong enough to event dent the wall, but enough to sting should any make contact.

Ryan had only been a hero for a couple of years. Though he was a fast learning, he hardly considered himself a pro at it all. He still had a lot to learn. In a straight up slugfest, he knew he would lose to anyone. That was why he always had to fight smarter. Sure with mass dispersion, Ryan could punch with the force of an elephant charging someone, but it meant nothing if the other person could do that back to him. For the most part, misdirection and the element of surprise were his go tos.
As Ryan grew and appeared, his fist met a green shield. He bounced off of it and shrunk back down to a more hidden size. As he bounded around, he made a note to give her a second. The squeak she made as he attacked probably meant he hadn't given her enough time to respond. He really didn't want to actually harm her, so giving her a moment to collect herself was probably for the best.
As she seemed to focus, beams of green light came firing out at his general location. Green Lanterns used hard light constructs, correct? That was why the shield could bounce him back. Ryan took that literally, as he grew once more to the size of a mouse and front flipped over one beam and onto another, running along its surface. "I've danced on the head of a pin before, Ms Green Lantern" Ryan started. "And now I can say I've run along light itself" he finished before pushing off another constructed beam of light and flipping again. He grew back to his full size as he flipped and his leg came out and downward towards her, aiming to hit her from the top.

She blinked at Ryan’s statement. That… was definitely impressive. Was that another part of being an experienced superhero: having a killer line ready at just the right moment?
“Oh, well, you’re welcome” she said, trying to put as much bravado into her voice as she could. She was more prepared this time for his next attack. He reappeared again, this time above her and his leg coming down in an arc toward her head. She put up another shield, but this time, as soon as his leg hit it, the construct immediately evolved into a ball to wrap around Ryan and trap him. Should that work, she also didn’t see the harm in giving him a good bounce around the room either.
“Craziest thing I’ve done is, y’know, go to space and visit an alien planet.” She shrugged, because she doubted that was all that impressive. It seemed like other superheroes were visiting foreign planets every other weekend. Besides, she was a Green Lantern, so space was supposed to be her thing. “I’m sure I’ll get used to all this… eventually.” She had to, she knew. She just wasn’t sure how or when. How could she be expected to tackle the galaxy when some days she couldn’t even tackle her own front yard?
