Subject Attributes
Meta-Human Abilities:
Rifting: Sideways' main power is his ability to open up rifts in space, allowing himself to either look through or step through and instantaneously travel to other locations wherever he may choose, which he calls "rifting". Rifts tend to be blurry however, and his aim isn't always exactly right. A side effect of rifting seems to be that it tears holes in the fabric of space and time, allowing The inverse to slip through. He is also able to bring people along with him when rifting, and trick people into walking through them, acting like portals. However, if a person isn't fully entered when the rift is closed, the rift can dismember the person.
- Rift Tracking: When Sideways think of a person before opening a rift he can locate and jump towards them. He can also find and teleport to beings outside the universe.
- Dimensional Rifting: Similar to Tempus Fuginaut, Derek can travel through different dimensions and universes. This, however is usually accidental as he doesn’t have precise enough control over his powers for this unless focusing on a specific person in that universe/dimension.
- Spatial Disruption: The edges of Derek's rifts are indestructible and razor-sharp, meaning he can use them to cut through solid matter.
- Rift Construct: A rift can act like a physical barrier, almost like a shield, being durable enough to stop a large truck from hitting him.
- Black Hole Creation: By creating a second rift within an existing rift Sideways can create a black hole .
Super Durability: Though not invulnerable, Derek is far more durable than an ordinary human. He’s survived being hit by a bus as well as falling from great height into a lake that would have been no different than landing on concrete with minimal breaks and bruises.
Super Agility: Derek’s balance and bodily coordination are all enhanced at levels that are far beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.
Accelerated Healing: Derek possesses some degree of healing abilities and can recover from any injuries or wounds faster than normal humans. For example, he only needed two days to heal his dislocated shoulder. The time it takes for full healing seems to depend on the level of his injury.
Standard Abilities:
He doesn’t have any ):

Subject Weaknesses:
Inexperience: Derek originally used his powers prominently for YouTube views, his foray into heroics is very new.

Subject History
While on a trip to Gotham City with his adoptive mother, Helen, the two found themselves caught up in a strange event as Challengers Mountain suddenly thrust itself back into our dimension, returning from some far off reality, and began emitting a mysterious energy through the city. Their proximity to the event saw the mother and son separated by the subsequent earthquake with Derek falling into a massive fracture in the ground and through a rift into the Dark Multiverse.
Derek was not found until four days later, when his mother discovered him in a Gotham hospital as a John Doe. Once claimed by his mother Derek was able to return home and quickly learned that his trip through the Dark Multiverse had left him with odd new abilities. He discovered that he was now able to open small tears in the fabric of space and time, allowing him to essentially teleport to wherever he wanted. A month later Derek’s friend Erestine had designed him a suit to wear when using his powers as he used them to be a live streamer, because why wouldn’t he?
Exploitative use of his powers though ultimately brought Derek to the attention of a being meant to monitor the stability of boundaries between dimensions, Tempus Fuginaut. Shaken by the appearance of the monitor Derek attempted to flee the giant by jumping off of a building and rifting away. Sadly for Derek, proximity to Tempus Fuginaut negated his abilities and he instead crashed into a lake, dislocating his shoulder in the process.
Severely weakened from his fall, Derek rifted to Erestine’s and was able to get her to get him to the hospital. While being treated for his dislocated shoulder the doctors were all completely floored as to how Derek was able to recover in an unprecedented two days. Regardless of hi seemingly miraculous healing Derek’s mom was there to chew him out for being reckless and injuring himself.
His mom’s scolding was cut short when a speedster attacked the hospital to steal drugs. Derek realized that with his abilities he could probably stop the speedster calling herself Killspeed. During his battle with Killspeed, Derek attempted to rift the both of them away from the hospital and inadvertently severed the arm of Killspeed.
The accidental dismemberment caused Derek to rethink trying to be a hero, he was horrified at what he had done and refused to use his powers any more. However, the watcher Tempus Fuginaut had had a change of heart and realized for what he was tasked he would need some help, he saw potential in Derek and knew it would need guidance. Having Tempus believe in him rejuvenated Derek’s resolve and he has renewed his training to be a capable superhero.
Subject Interview
"Yeah, I got it, mom! I got it! O-okay...yes...I know. BYE MOM!"
Derek's mom was being her usual overbearing self. He loved his mom but sometimes she just got to be way too much for him, it was like he was still a kid when he was practically a grown up already! He wasn't even sure what she was trying to remind him of but his best friend Ernie was waiting on him. So Derek hurried out of his parents' house as fast as he could, grabbing a slice of toast as he went.
The teen trotted down the brownstone with the toast flopping out of his mouth as he twisted his upper body to get arms through the backpack he was now wearing. Derek kept up his trot until he reached the corner of the block that his house was on where he met up with a blond girl dressed in a deep purple fuzzy jumpsuit.
"Seriously, PJs again? Y'know being quirky isn't really a personality trait."
Ernestine Edgar cast Derek the most bored look she could muster as she thrust the bag she'd been holding into the other teens's arms, and together they began their hike toward high school.
"Keep it up and I revoke your supersuit privileges."
They both laughed, though Ernie first had to sell the deadpan expression she was known for before joining Derek. As the laughter subsided he unzipped the bag she'd given him, his dark eyes peering inside to look over the Ernestine designed suit that she recently had to repair for him.
"Yeah, sorry for making you work so hard on this. I swear the crap Tempus has been putting me through has been murder."
Derek could still feel the aches from his training sessions with his extra-dimensional sensei. He winced slightly as he craned his neck just to work the muscle, but the fact that he had his suit back caused all of that to subside as his giddiness returned.
"Don't sweat it, just make sure you're careful with your new BFF. Your old BFF still worries sometimes." She made sure she didn't make eye contact with Derek. She was usually the "told you so" type and quick to berate him into listening to what she thought was best, not typically mushy.
"Aw c'mon, its not like I constantly make a habit of running out on you outta nowhere or anything."
Just then a dark vehicle tore down the street beside the duo, followed in hot pursuit by no less than 6 cop cars all with blaring sirens. Ernie stepped back from the curb of the sidewalk, nervously playing with a section of her long hair. "Jeez! The morning's barely started."
She turned her head toward Derek but he was already halfway through one of his little rifts and dressed in the suit she'd gifted him. Though his face was masked she could tell he had that dumb expression on his face that he usually wore when she caught him doing something he had no business.
"Uh, well this is awkward. Meet you at school?"
Derek was used to Ernie being fed up with him, it was nothing a little food during first period couldn't fix later. He waved a salute at her as he pulled out his phone and started recording himself.
"Wassup, Riftfam! We're back at it again, this time you guys get a first hand look at yours truly thwarting crime. Don't forget to like, leave a comment, and subscribe. Let's do this!"
He then disappeared into the hole in space. RFFT!
