Participants: Kate Kane , Bruce Wayne Open/Closed: (c) Location(s): Rooftop of GCPD. Time of Day: Early morning. Weather: Sunny. Summary: Batwoman doesn't often call on the help of her namesake, but things are different this time around. Batman has connections and frankly, Kate could use some help.
She had only been back in Gotham for a full 27 hours before they found her. She'd decided to ease back into the usual chaos of her city, resisting the urges to dawn her cape for as long as possible until, 26 hours in, she overheard a police officer, requesting backup. Granted, maybe having the police channels running in the background was too much temptation in the first place, but something about it brought her peace. At least, that's what she had decided to tell herself. Officer Bentley was calling in from nearby, his partner already down, taking gunfire from a group of low-life scums that had been trying to rob a back-alley store. Kate was dressed in under 2 minutes, out the door by 3, on the scene before it hit 7.
Bentley was pinned down behind his car door, barely able to get in a shot and never hitting a target when he did. The passenger side door was open too, and Kate could see Bentley's partner on the ground from where she was perched, a balcony a couple of stories up. She had to act quick, she could already see the blood pooling. Launching from the balcony's railing, Batwoman threw out her arm to release a set of three identical batarangs. The red blades found home in one thugs arm, another's leg and the final one simply knocked the weapon out of someones hand, but she'd take it. There was a total of five men, way too many to be taking on a job this apparently small, but just enough for Kate to handle on her own. The fight was short lived, but it was just what she'd needed. The adrenaline, the fast paced brawl, a fist to her side, her knee in someones gut. It was thrilling.
By the time they were finished, Officer Bentley had already made his way around to his partner. Kate came to them, checking the pulse of the downed officer while his partner sat there in hysterics, obviously new to the force. She couldn't help but feel bad for him, he'd be use to sights like this sooner than he knew, or wanted. Kate pulled a small aerosol can from her belt, a gift from Renee ages ago, when her own life had been in jeopardy. Pulling back the officers collar, the bullet having hit him right below his clavicle on the right side, Kate sprayed the fine mist that turned into a thin but incredibly sturdy patch over his wound. "That'll stop the bleeding. Keep pressure until they get here." She handed the man over to Bentley, turning to leave when something caught her eye.
It was the window of the shop that had been robbed, a glowing red neon sign that said "This way, Kate." She froze. Her eyes went to the board above the front door. "Mystery & Wonder". A magic shop?
Four hours later...
At first, Batwoman wasn't sure what to do. The things that she'd seen earlier that night, the things that she'd experienced herself.. She was at a loss for words. Three things were clear: One, the Religion of Crime was after her, yet again. Two, their "dabbling" in magic was now far more advanced. Three, Kate needed help. She didn't like to admit that often, but magic? Dark, at that. She wasn't familiar enough with the magic world, she preferred her foes to use fists or blades, not hexes and tricks.
She'd come to a safe place, a place where they could talk in private, with mutual ground. The GCPD rooftop surely wasn't as familiar territory for her as it was for Bruce, she could see the bat symbol covered by a tarp from where she stood, but it was the first place that came to mind. She'd reached out to Bruce on her way here, glad that he'd been able to take her call. She was vague on the phone, but they were both use to that, all that mattered was that he came. And that he'd be able to help.
